"Excellent care in this amazing place where miracles happen and everyone benefits."
"Excellent hospital for detox and treatment of addiction. Prof O'Gara and his team provide excellent care and offer progressive methods for combating addiction, if you really want it. The hospital had excellent covid-19 protocols and provided fair and balanced measures which is in line with their compassionate approach across the board. I highly recommend to anyone in the unfortunate position of dealing with addiction."
"I have to say a very pleasant experience. Some of the people there were a bit unsettling (especially when I was first admitted into a more restricted ward) but I enjoyed it overall For a public psychiatric hospital, the facilities are better than I expected. I loved chatting with the pretty nursing staff from St Vincents Hospital, eating good breakfast/dinners during the week and partaking in various activities downstairs. The only thing I didn't like was the reluctance of any of the consultant psychiatrists to treat my severe benzodiazepine addiction. I got addicted to benzos before coming there after a suicide attempt after I was prescribed them in Aug 2017. My psych only put me on 3mg of the antipsychotic risperidone which made me extremely tired and even more depressed. I was told psychiatrists and GP's no longer hand out benzos due to their addictiveness but there was a woman in there who came two weeks after me and was placed on a low dose of Xanax (0.5mg/500mcg) for a whole month. The image below is what my brother was prescribed at the start of 2017. I don't think the psychiatrists in SJOG or anywhere else really give them out."
"Wouldn’t be here today without the support and care I received in this hospital. Unfortunately my psychiatrist has since retired. Very positive experience. A question of taking of your mask and putting all your cards on the table. Psychiatrist are humans and do not rely on psychic intuition. They’ll help you if you help them."
"This place gave me back my life after five horrible years following a bad neck injury. The fantastic Dr. O'Donovan and his wonderful team did their absolute best for me. Also the amazing nurses in St Paul's ward who had a huge influence on my healing. Firstly if you stop trying to get better, you obviously never will. Also I think there's an element of finding the right Doctor. Just because one Doctor wasn't able to help doesn't mean nobody can help. Keep going, keep looking and you'll get there!"
