"Do not go to this hostel if you want a clean, quiet, and any type of facilities. Grubby, no hot water in shower no flushing toilet and no cold water from the sink. I went out and bought my own bedding and towels. This place is basic but it does not even meet the minimum requirements! You get better facilities in the jungle of Borneo. Read the reviews before booking I gave them the benefit of the doubt but big mistake on my part. I gave it 1 star as the room had a view to the sea. Otherwise no star."
"Cheap and cheerless...definitely one of the cheaper places I have seen around but my friend and I were both happy with our twin room. Plumbing made a weird noise whenever used, doors slammed way too easily (I must have slammed the door so many times because of those overactive closers), but you get what you pay for. If you aren't looking for the Ritz and you intend to spend most of your time out of the room except when you are sleeping, why worry about how beautiful the place is? It had a bed, it had a (passably clean) tiny toilet, it had a kitchen (no comment, didn't look or use it), it had a bathroom with electric shower (plenty of space for a shower cubicle, but they chose not to)...and you can see the sea from outside...beggars can't be choosers. Yes, the staff were a little bit standoffish, but they aren't exactly being paid top rate so people should quit complaining and go elsewhere if they want excellent service...me, I needed them twice, at check in and check out, so I didn't care."
"It is located in the centre of Brighton nearby the beach. The street in front of my room was not too busy (Middle St). It is minimalistic, but you can use a communal room and kitchen. My room was clean, but had a fusty smell and you couldn't air it well. The bathrooms are okay. The staff is nice. In general adequate for a cheap stay over night."
"This is a very basic hostel. The kitchen/lounge is not bad, but it's underground and not very clean. You have to leave a 20 pound per person deposit for the room, and another 10 pound deposit if you want to rent a set of crockery to eat in the kitchen. Our room was on the 4th floor and the bathroom was on the 1st (bathrooms were clean and well equipped). The beds are not the best, but there was room for our luggage. The hostel it's in a perfect location, on the seafront and close to the center."
"YOU WILL REGRET COMING HERE. My boyfriend and I decided to spend a couple of days in Brighton and wanted some cheap accommodation, so we chose the Grapevine Hostel as the location seemed convenient; this was by far the worst decision I have ever made. The staff were very rude and unwelcoming from the outset. The room is very basic and completely overpriced for what it is. The ceilings are very low and my 6" 3 boyfriend had to stoop the whole time while in the room. The curtains are essentially tissue paper and do nothing to block out light, causing us to wake up extremely early, which isn't nice following a night out. The window didn't close properly so the room was freezing at night. In the bathroom the shower head didn't reach the holder so it had to be held the whole time in the shower. They refused to give us our deposit back because apparently we had caused some leaking to the floor below using the shower, however it seems more likely that their plumbing was not sufficient and it was simply a case of wear and tear. To top it all off the handy man walked in on us in the shower without knocking to complain of the leaking, which is embarrassing and shouldn't happen anywhere. CRUMMY PLUMBING IS NOT OUR FAULT AND WE WERE ROBBED OF £40!! I strongly recommend you pay a couple of pounds more and choose one of the many other hostels in Brighton."
