"We had a Christmas dinner in the oaks. All was really lovely. Great portion sizes. And hot and tasty. Staff all friendly and welcoming. Just one member of staff was a little rude to us and also to two other tables. Guess she didn't want to be working Xmas day. Apart from that lovely food"
"We took our children for Breakfast with Santa. Understandably it was very busy. There wasn't any highchairs available when we first arrived but we managed to get one eventually. Considering how busy it was "Santa's little helper" always remained in good spirits even though it was very busy and things were running out. My children enjoyed the food and meeting Santa. Was a nice experience for them."
"Poor service and food. We arrived with a party of guests to celebrate a birthday, as we were seated we were told the 'festive menu' was completely unavailable - the week before Christmas. The carvery was still out so we all Qued up to order that, to then be told they couldn't serve us it as it had been sitting out too long and wasn't fit for consumption... yet continued to serve it to other customers and the waitress got herself a plate of it and ate it behind the bar? Once we'd ordered off the standard menu, the meals arrived lukewarm and 2 meals were incorrect so they were sent back. We don't normally have any issues eating out but unfortunately, it was poor food and not great service either."
"Food was enjoyable, especially the steak which was surprisingly tender, however the service was very poor, especially from one of the waitresses. She wasn't friendly, she kept us waiting for a table even though the place wasn't that busy, then she threw condiments onto the table as she spoke to her colleagues and didn't engage with us at all. Not much of an atmosphere, felt quite cold and there was a lot of rowdy men watching football on a big TV"
"The staff here were very friendly and worked their socks off. Trouble was there were not enough of them. Especially at the bar. What didn’t help was the fact the staff at the next door Premier inn were telling people there’s no need to pre book as they were pretty quiet tonight. When I arrived at the restaurant that was clearly not the case. And they were none to please to hear what the hotel was telling people. Now seeing as all food and drinks get ordered from the Bar and there was one person you can see where this is going. Ordering the food was in fact pretty painless. Or I just got lucky. I ordered cheesy garlic bread. And a steak pie as it was pie night. The starter garlic break arrived fairly quickly. But was clearly processed and not the best quality. Also as the kitchen had laid the slices on top of each other it meant some had double the amount of cheese and others hardly none as it had stuck to the other bits. After the starter I waited for the main. It didn’t arrive after 15 mins so decided to get a drink at the bar. As the bar was now getting busy I had to wait over 10 mins to get served. Problem is as that’s the only serving point while I was waiting my meal arrived. And was now partially cold. Not an ideal system at all. On the plus side the pie was really nice. And the chips now only slightly cold where ok. Now I would have probably given the place a 2 but the staff were amazing in the circumstances. They got me a table and the pie was very tasty. The management just need to sort their systems out so it actually works. Or they have the staff required to run it properly."
