"These people are a complete rip off and I would advise all to stay away. Do not mistake in thinking that this is a luxury hotel. I went all the way from Wolverhampton to Plymouth to celebrate my wife's birthday, wanted to keep her in a nice hotel and treat her to a good dinner. Looking at their website I booked 2 night for £175 each night. Booked their add on dinner which is described as 3 course a la cart for £32 each person. First disappointment is the appearance from outside which is nothing other then scaffolding as the entire place is under renovation. Second disappointment is the quality of carpets which is like unwashed for 100 years. Third is their lift where 2 good size person cannot fit. Calling themselves a luxury hotel without usable lifts is just a scam. When we checked in, the reception confirmed our dinner reservation which was already confirmed by email. When I came down at 8:15 PM i was told that they are only doing a bar menu and I can have pizza. They told me that the 3 course dinner which they accepted booking and confirmed for was not available between Christmas and new year. If they said that to me even at check in, I could have booked a different place. Totally ruined my wife's birthday as we could not even get place anywhere else. I was so disappointing with the overall experience that I cancelled my second day and checked out one day early. Once good thing is they gave me refund for the second day. However, I am going to do a formal complaint and report these people to trading standards for false marketing and false advertising. As a busy lawyer I am just struggling with time but I am not going to let this go because I travel 230 miles to give my wife a nice romantic birthday and these people completely ruined it for me. Book Crown Plaza if you want luxury stay in Plymouth. This is just a Britania hotel trying to act posh."
"Amazing value , the 4 poster bedroom was large, clean and very well presented . The bed was extremely comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep . All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was to much. You could feel the history of the hotel and due to the age obviously don’t be surprised to hear the odd squeaky floor board which you can live with due to the grandness of the hotel. It was also great to see the hotel is dog friendly so we will definitely return throughout the year . Thank you to all the staff and we will see you soon."
"Had a family meal.. The waiter couldn't wait to finish, everything was made to feel like he was in a hurry to get us out. Food was lovely, service awful...wouldn't bother again. Aunt said her room was amazing though."
"Good hotels are actually really hard to find, usually something for someone to moan at nut this hotel. Simply put old fashioned but in a great way, service, cleanliness, professionalism. You honestly can't go wrong. Yes there are absolutely cheaper hotels in Plymouth, last night I stayed in the Duke of Cornwall which was perfect. Tonight I'm in the travelodge. Currently writing this on the toilet while staring at the manky tiles and dirty toilet base, wish work had booked the Duke of Cornwall again! Don't make the same mistake."
"This hotel is a gem. Its decor takes you back in time and is beautiful. It is immaculately clean and towels and toiletries provided were excellent. We ate breakfast in the hotel and being GF I usually don’t bother but they made me one of the best GF breakfasts I’ve ever had! Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff and all of them are super friendly. Parking is a little tight but fingers crossed there is a space. Would we return…..without hesitation! Excellent value, location and perfect for our stay."
