"Had surgery done recently at the Leicester General and was admitted to ward 2 then moved to ward 20. I must say a special thanks to all the staff who were so professional and friendly, nothing was too much for them to deliver their prompt assistance. Special thanks to Tracey, Sheena and Bill on the night shift just to name a few, well done and thanks again."
"Terrible experience during August last year. I had been under the same urologist for a number of years (private medical insurance). I asked to see the consultant on the NHS as my premiums go up every year and having paid tax all my working life, I would hope this would be not too much to ask. It was agreed that I could see the consultant on the NHS, and I travelled from Sheffield to Leicester with my husband (both taking time off work) for a pre op and then travelled again for the procedure a few days later. When I arrived at the hospital the nursing staff couldn't be more helpful. There were only two patients in the ward (me and another), so the attention was amazing. I had not been there long when I was prepped for theatre, and all was going well until another consultant turned up saying he would be doing my procedure. I asked where the agreed consultant was and initially was told he had other commitments. I explained I had travelled to see that consultant and had seen him for a number of years; however, I was then informed the consultant was conducting a seminar. I was furious, as I had waited over 3 years for the procedure (due to Covid) and was being told at the last minute that I would be having another consultant who I had never met and had no knowledge of. In my opinion, it was quite apparent that the department head knew before I arrived that the consultant, I usually had would not be conducting my procedure and they thought they could effectively ‘fob me off’ with someone else at the last minute. It is most likely that the seminar was more financially viable to the consultant (although when I complained to the female in charge of patient bookings, she said it was necessary training for staff). I decided to leave the hospital without surgery and look for another consultant that I felt I could trust. I did complain to the hospital, however, they refused to compensate me for my travel and work expenses, and I never received an apology from the consultant. Very disappointed with the staff who had assured me that I would see the same consultant I had waited to see for over 3 years, and the consultant himself who could have called me out of courtesy to let me know he couldn't perform the surgery that day (it was not as if he had an emergency). The nursing staff, however, were wonderful and very understanding of my situation, I think they were put in a very awkward position by those who did not deliver on the day. I won’t be returning to this hospital in a hurry!"
"Staff were lovely and very polite and helpful. My heart broke for the poor phlebotomists when I went for a blood test. Very few staff and lots of people waiting in corridor for blood tests. Some people still had their coats etc on, our GP surgery ask you to remove these ready to save time. These valuable staff need our help, the stress they must feel would make most of us want to run in the opposite direction. Let’s help them where possible!!"
"I have always found the hospital’s medical care exemplary. My issue concerns the parking. I paid £2.90 for 2 hours. If the income from parking charges is well used, I have no objection….but why persist in demanding such an inconvenient amount? I presume the majority of visitors insert £3 and you benefit from keeping the change, but please consider charging multiples of £1 and, if necessary, adjusting the time appropriately. Think about it….which is more helpful to everyone, £2.90 for 2 hours or £3.00 for 2 hours 10 minutes, say?"
