"Table had already been booked. Starters came ,then we watched restaurant filing up . And we waited and waited 45 minutes later all other tables eating , staff came round to explain there was a delay and would we like more wine. Meal eventually came very small portions and meal wasn't hot, ate very quickly as going to show. I used the toilet before leaving and passed the kitchen it was small, very small for a restaurant that size won't be returning."
"Visited Giovanni’s to celebrate my son’s 21st birthday. There were 11 of us in total. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and nice decor. The service from all the staff was excellent and a particularly nice, personal touch was Francesca volunteering to take some group photos and to take time to chat with us. The quality of the food and drink was outstanding, all 11 meals arrived together and were piping hot. A really lovely evening and we will be sure to come back in the future. Thanks to all the staff for giving us a family night to remember."
"Decent portions and the food was well cooked and presented. It’s a personal taste issue but the photos everywhere of famous people who have eaten there feels a little crass and dated. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable about the menu but two of them for 27 tables was really pushing it and it showed. We enjoyed it for pre-theatre food but it’s not on the return list for us with all of the great options that Cardiff has in competition."
"If you consider the people and the service this could easily be a 5 star; they were all kind and helpful, and I really appreciate the time they have spent talking to us. The location, in an excellent position of the city, was nice and clean, but full of photos of the owner with some famous people and it was a bit oppressive (and a little bit too much 1985). The "traditional popular music" played loud during the dinner, looks as an overselling of American imagery of Italians; as an Italian I found it a bit stereotypical and borderline offensive. The pizza wasn't perfect, and looks like an adaptation to the local taste and not a proper Italian one; said that, still a good pizza for British standards. But the real disaster was the tiramisu, with little to none trace of eggs or mascarpone; the only taste was the white cream (and I would never stress it enough, there is no space for cream in Tiramisu: never have and never will. If you like cakes with cream you can have it, but don't call it what it isn't, because it's dishonest)."
