"My Mum went into St Michaels in June 2018 and is still there I can not fault this Hospital from the First Day she arrived she has been treated very well and all the staff have made me and the rest of the visitors that visit my mum very welcoming and the staff are always happy to stop and have a chat with me, and when ever I ask the staff for anything for my mum they come right away sadly my mum will have to leave this hospital soon which I would have loved for her to stay here for the level of care she has received it has been very good. This hospital has a lot of Banking staff and you still see the same face's coming back so that tells me the staff like to come to work here too. When you drive up the Hospital there are lovely plant pot planted and when you walk into the front door there is always a beautiful flower arrangement on the table also the gardens at the front door are kept beautiful and it is a lovely bit for visitors to take there relative's to sit The staff come round and talk to the patient's and I have also saw some of the staff paint some of the lady's nails which is a nice little touch. So I would just like to say a Big Thank you to all the staff Full time and Banking that have been in St Michaels since my mum has been with you myself and my mum have very much appreciated it keep up the good work. "My mother was transferred here as a delayed discharge in February 2014. The site was dreadful. Although the single-ward unit was modern, the rest of the site was old and partly derelict. The hospital is on a hill. Arriving by foot I had to tread through water from a leaking sewer. Staff left patients in bed and gave them meals in bed. They seemed unable to empathise with patients and often left the radio or tv blaring noisily and the bay lights on when patients wanted to sleep. They were antagonistic towards me and called the police when I tried to wait in the secluded conservatory between visiting sessions because the site is isolated and there is no other waiting room. Little use was made of a Day Centre on the site - I was told I had to have permission just to go in to make enquiries! Although the unit was probably intended as temporary accommodation for delayed discharges like my mother, the impression I got was that most were expected to die there. The consultant decided that my mother (who had not been mobilised 4 months after a hip operation) should not be allowed to walk ever again for her own good! In disgust I removed her in April 2014 against medical advice and got her walking and climbing stairs the next day. Her 'high care needs' (immobility, double incontinence) evaporated when she got home. Staff have little respect for carers or relatives. Avoid!"
