Our centre boasts a collection of over 175 animals, exotic and endangered species that you won't find anywhere else in the United Kingdom. From Amur leopards to New Zealand red deer, our animals are loved, cherished and cared for to ensure they are healthy and happy in their natural habitat. Our zookeepers are dedicated to ensuring the welfare of all the animals under our care comes first, providing expert care and nourishment to ensure they remain well taken care of.
Our institution also acts as a conservation centre, and we are home to various breeding and research programmes. By visiting the Exmoor Zoological and Conservation Centre, you get to learn about how these programmes operate and how they help promote the survival of endangered species. The conservation work we do is enormously vital to protect wildlife.
We believe that educating visitors about how to conserve wildlife in nature is one of the most crucial components of animal conservation. That is why we have a dedicated education centre within the zoo. With interactive and educational exhibits, visitors can learn more about endangered animals and environmental issues. "Delightful experience! Didn’t expect much from a random trip on a Friday in October but it was one of the best zoo trips I’ve ever been on. All the staff were friendly and helpful (shout out to Steven for his fun interactive talks!!). They had a diverse selection of animals and despite the quiet season it was really engaging."
"Took my daughter to the zoo before she goes back to uni, I haven't been there for years. We had a brilliant time, so many animals too see, i love that those who are shy have fairly over grown enclosures so you might get a glimpse but they're free to hide away if they want. I think we saw all but 2 of the animals on display. They have new arrivals next year too, a snow leopard and red pandas. Lots of information about the animals, talks available and if you like you can handle some of the creepy crawlies. Not over priced and well worth a visit. I'm local and didn't realise it was so good, I will be going back once the new arrivals arrive!"
"This is the best day out we’ve had in our holiday by a long way! We arrived for opening time at 10am joined a small queue and quickly got inside with our pre booked tickets. The staff were friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout our visit and the keeper talks were very informative. There are so many animals to see that we were there for about 6 hours to see it all. The animals were well kept, in good health and mostly easy to spot but just one or two elusive ones! The food and drink is very reasonably priced which was a pleasant surprise compared to other places we had visited with meals around the £5 per person mark. They also provided a small quiz which my stepdaughter filled in and got a goody bag which was a nice touch! All in all a great day out and highly recommended!"
"We had heard so much about this lovely zoo from our friends who live more locally to it and we were not disappointed. What a fantastic place and this is made all the better by the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had a 'Walk on the Wild Side' experience with Alex, which was great and a rare chance to get up close and personal with many of their rare and unusual animals. Our favorite was brushing the 2 tapirs. I'm not sure who was most relaxed, them or us? This zoo is definitely worth a visit and please support the important conservation work they are doing. Looking forward to visiting again ASAP. Thank you to the team for an unforgettable day."
