White, a prominent figure in the establishment of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Sunnyside holds a significant historical value, as it was purchased by Ellen G. White in her relentless pursuit to support the establishment of a Seventh-day Adventist Church school in the area. With the Church having acquired an impressive 1,500 acres of land, Ellen White personally purchased 40 acres on Avondale Road on June 7, 1895. At the remarkable age of 68, Ellen White faced the challenge of finding suitable accommodation. Undeterred, she resided in a tent on the property alongside her granddaughter and a small staff until her Sunnyside home was completed in 1896.
