Koch, who redesigned the house in the French Second Empire style. In 1904, the mansion was renamed Labassa and became the residence of Melbourne's elite until 1920, when it was converted into flats. Over the years, Labassa has been home to a diverse range of residents, including Hollywood's first Australian silent film star and other bohemian individuals. Today, Labassa stands as one of the few surviving nineteenth-century mansions, with its main rooms meticulously restored to their former glory, leaving visitors in awe of its grandeur.
