Opoho Playcentre 28A Signal Hill Road, Opoho, Dunedin, Otago 9010
About the Business
Welcome to Ōpoho Playcentre, located on Signal Hill Road in Dunedin, New Zealand. Ōpoho Playcentre is a unique institution where both children and their whānau (family) can attend together. Our playcentre provides a fun and safe environment for children to learn and explore. We believe in nurturing the curiosity and creativity of our tamariki (children) through play, allowing them to learn about themselves and the world around them.
At Ōpoho Playcentre, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities. They can explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, dress up, have their face painted, garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature, and get messy if they wish. Our activities change every day, ensuring that there is always something new and exciting for your child to experience.
We highly value and affirm parents and whānau as the first and best educators of their children. Each parent brings their unique skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds, which contribute to our rich learning environment. We welcome families with children aged 0-6 years, and our mixed-age play allows children to interact and engage with peers of different ages. This promotes communication, sharing, and empathy among the children. Once children are comfortable with Ōpoho Playcentre routines, older children from 2.5 years old can be dropped off.
At Ōpoho Playcentre, parents, children, and whānau learn together, forming lifelong friendships. We invite you to join us in learning, laughing, playing, and growing. You are welcome to visit us for three free visits at any time during the year. We are open on weekdays (except Tuesdays) from 9 am to 12 pm. Our playcentre follows Ōpoho School term dates.
Conveniently located away from the road down a driveway, Ōpoho Playcentre is surrounded by native bush, providing a peaceful and natural setting for children to thrive. We would love to meet you and your family!

Reviews
"Lots of fun for kids. Nice group of mums to have a chat and share our mum stories and concerns."
"Opoho Playcentre is a magical place! My three boys (ages 1, 3 and 5) love Playcentre and often ask if it's a Playcentre day today. There are resources and activities to cater for babies to big kids - my big boys love the bikes, sandpit, carpentry area and toy cars. They really like that mum and dad can go with them. My littlest loves exploring all around, watching the big kids, water play and clambering over foam pads. I love the bright friendly atmosphere, the high adult ratios that mean my children are always well supervised, the warm and knowledgeable educators, the wonderful connections with other families in the community, and the opportunity to do messy play away from home."
"My baby enjoys playing at Opoho Playcentre very much. Met couple of babies at her age and my baby has become more sociable and loves coming out every Thursday. Friendly helpful staff/ parents made us feel welcome."
"Opoho Play center has been great for us! A welcoming group of parents, great facilities and an awesome educator!"
"Joining Opoho Playcentre when our oldest child was one of our best parenting decisions. It helped us meet other local families and become a part of a caring nurturing community which continued as he has transitioned to primary school with many of the same friends. Our boys have loved the big sandpit, water play, carpentry area and all the toys and resources. I have loved chatting with other parents, making friends, and learning ways to make life a bit easier during these challenging early years. I feel very fortunate to have a Playcentre that is open 5 days a week with great educators in our neighbourhood."
