At Toroa College, we prioritize the health and well-being of our students. We strongly recommend that all students, especially those living in residential colleges, receive the meningitis ACWY vaccine before coming to Dunedin. Historically, there have been cases of meningococcal disease among students at the University of Otago, and vaccination provides good levels of protection against this potentially serious illness.

To ensure optimal protection, three injections are required: two of the meningitis B vaccine, with a minimum interval of four weeks between doses, and one of the meningitis ACYW vaccine. The cost for the meningitis B vaccine is $110 for each course of two vaccinations, while the meningitis ACYW vaccine is free for New Zealand residents aged 13-25 entering college accommodation for the first time. Non-New Zealand residents and those not entering college accommodation can receive the meningitis ACYW vaccine for $100. Additionally, there is a nurse charge of $10 for New Zealand residents and $40 for international students.
