In 2014, we became the first laser clinic in New Zealand to offer the revolutionary SMILE laser eye surgery. Since 1995, Wellington Eye Centre has been delivering impressive results with LASIK, the most common laser eye surgery in the world. LASIK is capable of correcting hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism. The procedure is quick, with the initial step of creating a flap taking only 7-8 seconds, followed by corneal shaping that takes 5-40 seconds depending on your prescription.

It is important to note that while laser surgery permanently changes the shape of the cornea, it does not prevent age-related changes in vision. Additionally, we do not recommend using laser technology to correct vision before the age of 20, as your eyes continue to develop until that time. If you are between the ages of 65 and 85, we advise waiting until the time of cataract surgery to have your vision corrected, as the lens placed during cataract surgery can also correct short-sightedness or long-sightedness. Laser eye surgery can then be used to correct any remaining focusing errors.
