Welcome to Rangiora Te Kohanga Reo, located at 51 Ivory Street in Rangiora, New Zealand. Our institution is a point of interest and establishment that focuses on revitalizing and strengthening the Māori language and its customs.

Te Kohanga Reo, which translates to "the language nest," is a place where we care for and nurture children from birth to 6 years of age in a warm and secure environment alongside their families. Our goal is to immerse the children in the Māori language, customs, and values, providing them with a rich cultural experience.

At Te Kohanga Reo, we believe in the importance of whānau (family) involvement in their children's learning and the operations of our institution. We work together to build a supportive community that fosters language and cultural spaces. This collaboration is vital for the revitalization of the Māori nation and the sustainability of Te Aō Māori (the Māori world).

Since the opening of the first Kohanga Reo, Pukeatua, on April 13, 1982, over 50,000 children have attended a Kohanga Reo. Many of these children have now become parents of the second generation of Kohanga Reo children, highlighting the lasting impact and importance of our institution.

Currently, there are over 460 Kohanga Reo throughout Aotearoa (New Zealand). Aotearoa is divided into districts called "Rohe," and within each Rohe, there are smaller clusters called "Purapura." These Purapura provide support and advice at a whānau level, allowing Kohanga Reo to come together, share experiences, and expand their knowledge within our philosophy.

To further support our Kohanga Reo, we have 10 regional offices called "Tari ā rohe" with dedicated staff members who facilitate support and advice on Whanau Learning (training) and Whanau Management (operational obligations).
