About the Business
Welcome to Te Whatu Ora Lakes, an establishment located on Arawa Street in Rotorua, New Zealand. As a health institution, we are dedicated to providing top-quality care and support to our patients. Whether you are seeking mental health services or require treatment for addictions, we are here to help.
At Te Whatu Ora Lakes, we understand the importance of ensuring your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. Our team of dedicated professionals is committed to providing a warm and welcoming environment, where you can feel at ease during your time with us.
One of our unique features is Mac, a real-life Hairy Maclary who calls the Rotorua Children's Health Hub his home. Unlike his fictional lookalike, Mac's friends are clinicians who provide exceptional care to children in need. We believe in the power of animal-assisted therapy and how it can positively impact the healing process.
We are proud to have Stacey Neilson, a talented cardiac sonographer, on our team. Stacey's move from the North Shore to Rotorua has given her the opportunity to work with more cancer patients, conducting vital scans. Her dedication and research in this field have earned her an award, highlighting her commitment to improving patient care.
Russell Watts, a Taupō man, shares his inspiring story of living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). His journey serves as a reminder that strength and resilience can overcome any obstacle. At Te Whatu Ora Lakes, we strive to provide comprehensive support and care to individuals facing similar challenges, ensuring they are not alone in their journey.
We are also committed to sustainability and cost-efficiency. By making a simple change to energy-efficient lightbulbs, we have already saved approximately $60,000 annually at Rotorua Hospital. We continue to explore innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a healthier future.
At Te Whatu Ora Lakes, we believe in the holistic approach to healthcare, addressing both physical and mental well-being. Our institution serves as a point of interest, offering a range of services to meet the diverse needs of our community. We invite you to explore the different services available within the Te Whatu Ora Lakes Mental Health and Addictions Service through our website.
Join us at Te Whatu Ora Lakes, where compassionate care, innovation, and community support come together to create a healing environment for all.

"Thankyou soo much to the ambulance staff, ED and imaging services & orthopaedic specialists. News floods the reader with huge wait times bla bla Honestly, I was never left wondering what happening, I was regularly updated, consulted and advised all they way through my stay. Thoroughly professional, respectful and was asked each time if I was happy about any procedure that included touching my body. Thankyou Lakes hospital and know oyu are appreciated"
"Thank you to all the wonderful, doctors, nurses, health care workers and food delivery ladies. In fact everyone I have met at my appointments and hospital stays. Although they are short staffed and under pressure, everyone has been kind, caring and concerned. They have made me feel confident in their care and as comfortable, given the circumstances, as possible. I see I have missed some people so if you have had anything to do with me, thank you. All this includes you too."
"Great, friendly and quick service - both by nurses and doctors! Smooth experience! went there when I broke my collar bone in MTB accident yesterday. Dr. Ross Edwards is the best!"
"Unexpected when a loved one went into hospital and you are both from another city and as a support person I could not stay pass the midnight hours, so the beautiful nurses recommended Te Whata Ora accommodation. The flats stay right at the back of the Rotorua Hospital, so only walking distance. Has all the amenities and is suited for any whanau. Thankyou Te Whata Ora and LDHB."
"My toddler was admitted with RSV and very sick , the care we received was amazing. Because we were from another city the staff organised the Whanau unit for us to stay in, the unit was wonderful and being directly beside the children’s ward took away so much stress and hassle. Thank you to the staff at the hospital!!"
