About the Business
Welcome to Rotorua Hospital, a prominent establishment in the heart of Rotorua, New Zealand. Situated at the corner of Arawa Street, our hospital is a renowned health institution that serves as a point of interest for both locals and visitors alike.
At Rotorua Hospital, we prioritize your well-being and aim to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. We understand that being in a hospital can be a daunting experience, which is why our dedicated staff is here to provide you with the highest quality of care and support.
One of the highlights of our hospital is the Te Whatu Ora Lakes Mental Health and Addictions Service, which offers a range of services aimed at promoting mental health and addressing addiction issues. We provide links to these services, ensuring that our patients have access to the necessary resources for their recovery.
In addition to our exceptional medical care, we also have a unique feature that sets us apart. Meet Mac, our real-life Hairy Maclary! Unlike his fictional lookalike, Mac can be found at the Rotorua Children's Health Hub, where he forms special bonds with our young patients. Our team of clinicians and Mac work together to create a comforting and friendly environment for children during their medical journey.
Our commitment to excellence is evident in the recognition received by our dedicated staff. Cardiac sonographer Stacey Neilson, who joined us from the North Shore, has made significant contributions to our hospital. Her research on cancer patients' scans has earned her a well-deserved award, highlighting the expertise and dedication of our professionals.
We believe in sharing inspiring stories of resilience and courage. Taupō man Russell Watts has graciously shared his personal journey of living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Through his story, we hope to inspire others and raise awareness about this condition.
Not only are we dedicated to providing exceptional care, but we also prioritize sustainability. By making simple changes such as switching lightbulbs, we have already achieved an annual saving of approximately $60,000. We are committed to implementing more environmentally friendly practices to reduce our carbon footprint.
At Rotorua Hospital, we strive to provide comprehensive healthcare services while ensuring your comfort and well-being. Whether you require medical assistance, mental health support, or addiction services, our institution is here to cater to your needs. Trust us to deliver exceptional care and support throughout your medical journey.

"My partner Noel Pearson has been in surgical ward for the last 3 days. He would like to thank Dr Christopher Hamilton for his caring attitude and the wonderful nurses. They copped alot of abuse while I was there, and they certainly dont deserve to be treated like that. Thank you"
"My mum is currently in Rotorua Hospital. Brought in via ambulance and in A&E for a couple of days then moved to medical ward. We are not near the end of her hospital journey yet, but just wanted to thank everyone who has been involved so far. The care she has received has been wonderful. She is enjoying the food, which I thought no one liked hospital food (it does look delicious). Thank you all so much ❤️"
"Never get seen sooner than 4 hours. Doctors and nurses run off their feet. Today an old man with a head injury, a baby with an allergic reaction, a lady vomiting on the floor for hours, a boy with a broken arm, a lady crying and doubling over in pain, a young man who is 8 hours and counting in the waiting room because there just isn't enough staff. Something needs to change. Not good enough."
"Being far away in the UK getting the news when my sister collapsed during her solo tour of NZ was terrifying. We have received the utmost professional and supportive help from the staff here. In patiently explaining what had happened, how they managed to resuscitate and get her airlifted. Thank you so much, words just cannot express it."
