About the Business
Welcome to the Salvation Army Family Store located at 355B Riccarton Road in Christchurch, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, our store is dedicated to providing support and assistance to families and individuals in need.
Each year, we have the privilege of helping over 120,000 families and individuals through various services such as budgeting advice, food and clothing assistance, life skills programs, and other forms of comfort and support. Our mission at The Salvation Army is to care for people, transform lives, and reform society.
We are proud to announce that the Territorial Commander has approved several appointments that will further strengthen our commitment to our mission. This decision was made in the sacred space of the High Council chamber, where prayers were offered for guidance and wisdom.
Our institution believes in inclusivity, and we welcome delegates from diverse age groups, cultures, and backgrounds to participate in our events. One such event is the upcoming Thought Matters conference in 2023. We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker, who will undoubtedly inspire and enlighten attendees.
Child poverty and pressing social issues are at the forefront of our concerns. As part of our advocacy efforts, we are urging politicians to explain their plans for reducing child poverty. Our Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit is actively engaging with policymakers to address pressing issues such as jobs, incomes, and taxes.
We are excited to share that our new appointments, approved by the Territorial Commander, will take effect on January 11, 2024. This step ensures that we continue to provide the highest level of care and support to those in need.

"Was expensive for a charity store. Most people shopping only have a few dollars to spare. The place was suffering due to these prices was over filled of stuff. The items being sold are thought of as a income for the charity store and not as a item that's going to help someone in need. Charity must've changed to making profit businesses. Shouldn't be registered as charity stores anymore. These are second hand shops making profits, not helping the communities anymore. These are stores run by the church to make a INCOME off donated goods. They don't care anymore if you are a dollar short."
"even though it's now the only opportunity withing the church corner areak it is a lovely shop, though I didn't receive any customer service (though it's hard to know if you will receive that from volunteer's) if I had any complaint it's just about not noticing if the female clothing are sorted into different sizes or not"
"Lovely warm Family store, with everything for the family. Mark is the manager, and they have alot of high quality second hand. Its not a junk shop, as Kmart is so cheap these day....Have fun!"
"Thrift stores have amazing bargins & finding gems in the thrift shop is wat I thrift 4 These days a budget for buying reloved clothing in good condition is a + 4 me & my budget"
"I've found quite a lot of nice stuff in this shop overtime, but recently some of the prices have been mind boggling. A very much used set of bed linen for $21. Just no comment here. A sewing pattern with a price tag of $29. If I have to pay this much money for it, I'd rather buy straight from the original designer rather than an overly greedy second hand shop. Someone needs to have some decency and common sense when they price donations the shop gets for free."
