Welcome to Barnardos Early Learning Centre Hornby Pasifika, located at 190a Waterloo Road in Christchurch, New Zealand. I am Sarah, the Centre Manager, and I am thrilled to invite your family into our community and the Barnardos whānau.

At Hornby Pasifika Early Learning Centre, we prioritize creating a safe, diverse, and welcoming environment where quality early learning and the wellbeing of our tamariki (children) are at the heart of everything we do. Each day, we provide fresh fruit for morning kai (food) to ensure our children are well-nourished.

Our main aim is to provide the best conditions for your child's learning, wellbeing, and care. We understand the importance of convenience and giving you peace of mind, knowing that your child is in safe hands. With our central location, loving team, and tailored environment, we are excited for your whānau (family) to discover all that we have to offer.

We go above and beyond to support working parents by offering extended hours and utilizing Storypark, our online parent communication tool. Additionally, we organize local excursions, provide delicious meals, and offer a wide range of fun activities to ensure that we are the best we can be for your child.

Our nurturing environment inspires, stimulates, and empowers your child to learn in their own unique way. Our outdoor spaces are designed to challenge and excite their imagination, while our spacious and light-filled indoor areas provide room for reading, rest, and engaging indoor learning experiences. Our children love activities such as painting, waiata (songs), and exploring the natural play areas.

We strongly believe in building a strong connection with nature and our local community, as it helps your child develop a sense of belonging and identity while positively influencing their learning experiences. We are fortunate to have many wonderful options on our doorstep here in Hornby, including growing our own vegetables and herbs in our garden and going on community excursions to the local park and the Hornby hub shopping centre. We also have weekly transition visits at Hornby Primary School.

Nutrition is a priority for us, and we strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals and snacks that support your child's physical and mental development. Our kai is inspired by Pasifika flavors, and we encourage healthy eating habits by offering a balanced menu to keep your child well-fueled throughout the day. Our centre is nut-free, and we are happy to cater to any allergy or dietary requirements.

Affordability is important to us, and as a not-for-profit organization, everything we do goes back into supporting your child, the centre, and our community. We also offer 30 hours at no charge, up to 6 hours per day, for all children aged 0-5 years. Please feel free to ask us for more information!

Our team of teachers is guided by Te Whariki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum. They work closely with your child and respond to their unique curiosities by creating an environment that reflects their individual needs.

We strongly believe in the involvement of families and whānau in our centre and their children's learning. We connect with you through Storypark and celebrate festivals as some of the ways we include families and whānau in our community.

From growing their own veggies and herbs in our garden to local excursions in the community, we constantly seek ways for your child to explore the connection between their community, environment, and themselves.

We use Storypark as a tool to record and communicate learning as it happens, using photos, videos, audio, and observations within a secure online environment. Parents and whānau can receive instant feedback and plan new ways to extend their child's unique interests and abilities.
