Welcome to Hataitai Kindergarten, located in the heart of Wellington on Taurima Street. As an establishment and point of interest, our kindergarten is dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children and their families.

At Hataitai Kindergarten, we believe in the importance of maintaining strong relationships with both whānau (families) and the wider community. Our teaching philosophy is centered around the concepts of whanaungatanga, which emphasizes the value of these relationships, and manaaki, which promotes caring for others. We work alongside whānau to promote and extend children's learning and development, placing relationships at the forefront of our approach.

With our open door policy, whānau are always welcome to stay at the kindergarten and actively participate in our programs. Our interactions between teachers and children are affirming, respectful, and caring, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported.

Hataitai Kindergarten is a well-resourced and established facility conveniently located near the shopping centre in central Hataitai. We have strong community links and most of our children come from the local area, often transitioning to Hataitai or Kilbirnie Schools. Additionally, we work closely with nearby Matairangi Kindergarten, allowing for a smooth transition for younger children.

Our dedicated team of passionate teachers is committed to extending children's learning and creating exciting experiences for them. Our three-level playground provides ample opportunities for exploration, physical activity, social skill development, and imaginative play. We encourage children to care for their environment, fostering a sense of responsibility and respect.

One of our major strengths is the promotion of children's language and literacy skills. We also embrace cultural diversity and have a genuine commitment to a bicultural approach, celebrating festivals that are important to our kindergarten whānau.

Led by an experienced Head Teacher, our team consists of five fully qualified and registered teachers with degrees in early childhood education. We also have an administrator/teacher's aide who supports our teachers for 16 hours a week. This blend and balance of life experiences, skills, and personalities enriches the learning environment for our children.

Safety is of utmost importance to us, especially for children with allergies. As a nut-free kindergarten, we ensure that our environment is safe for all children. Please note that at times, other foods may also be excluded to ensure the well-being of all.
