About the Business
Welcome to Seahorse Aquatic Centre, located at 114 Geaney Lane in Deeragun, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, we specialize in swimming lessons in the Townsville region. Our purpose-built facility, owned and operated by the Paxton family, provides a nurturing and enjoyable experience for every swimmer.
Denise Paxton, with over 25 years of experience in teaching swimming, is heavily involved in the day to day operations and teaching at Seahorse Aquatic Centre. She is passionate about teaching babies and takes great joy in seeing them graduate to independent swimming. Having previously taught in Cairns for 10 years, Denise has taught hundreds of children in the Townsville region since relocating over 15 years ago. She regularly attends courses and workshops to upskill and train our staff. Denise opened Little Snappers Swim School 5 years ago with 60 students, and now Seahorse Aquatic Centre has over 650 swimmers.
Behind the scenes, Stephen Paxton utilizes his accountancy qualifications to ensure the smooth running of our operation. Our facility is purpose-built for teaching swimming, with an indoor temperature-controlled pool that allows swimming all year round. We take pride in offering small class sizes with qualified Swim Australia and Austswim teachers. All our teachers have CPR qualifications, and some also have full First Aid training. They regularly participate in upskilling and personal development courses to ensure your children get the best outcome from their lessons.
At Seahorse Aquatic Centre, we specialize in teaching children with special needs and offer a wide range of merchandise, including goggles, swim caps, swim nappies, and wet bags. Our program caters to babies from 2 months old through to Squad and Adult lessons. We also provide Aquafit sessions and Aqua with Bubs classes.
Our age-based lessons focus on developing safety and survival skills, as well as progression to independent movement, all run by experienced teachers. We have a free program developed to enhance babies' affinity for water, providing educational and stimulating water familiarization based on their physical, social, and emotional development. Parents or caregivers will gain skills and confidence in helping babies explore the water.
As children progress, our activities focus on developing breath control, movement, and flotation through play and games. We also incorporate activities based on their development on land as they become more mobile. Constant activities help develop paddling and kicking skills, moving towards independent movement, all while focusing on safety. Children will learn to coordinate their arms and legs, lift their head for a breath, and engage in lots of swimming. This level also offers classes for more advanced children under 3 years old.

Reviews
"Excellent swim school, with very knowledgeable teachers highly recommended."
"Highly recommend Seahorse Aquatic Centre to teach your kids to swim. The whole team are friendly, inviting, and engaging with both the children and parents. The facilities are great and perfect for those with multiple kids as there is a fence around the pool, meaning the kids that aren't swimming are safe from the water when you are in the pool. The lessons are fantastic with fun songs or games throughout the lesson with a focus on water safety at all times. The instructors regularly explain why they are teaching what they are teaching and provide feedback regularly. I have always loved our lessons at Seahorse Aquatic Centre. However, due to relocating interstate, I had to find another swim school, and this has shown me just how amazing the team is. Special shout out to Aline and Lauren for being awesome instructors!"
"Great swim school with a good depth pool for tall people with tiles so no grazing of toes and knees. Swim teachers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Great classes with small numbers for good interaction and they maximise the 30 minute sessions"
"Love this swim school. Daughter started from eight weeks and has developed in line with all her milestones, she has even excelled in some - this I attribute to swimming! Denise is so great with teaching the parents how to teach our kids/ babies in the pool, can not fault her at all and all the team at northside!! I cannot wait for it to re open and keep on our swimming journey!"
"It has been amazing seeing our son become so confident in the water. At such a young age. He started at 8 weeks and we were soon dunking him. He’s now just turned 2 and is ducking, diving, jumping - thriving. Our boy loves the water. Taking him to Little Snappers has given him a great head start. We would recommend this school to anyone and everyone who has children."
