About the Business
Welcome to the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania, located in the beautiful Sandy Bay area on Churchill Avenue. As an establishment and point of interest, our institution offers more than just studying. We believe in creating opportunities for our students to connect with new people, explore their interests through events, sports, and volunteering, and truly embrace the university experience.
At the College of Arts, Law and Education, we take pride in our research excellence, which not only benefits Tasmania but also makes a global impact. We are committed to forming deep connections, not only within our university community but also with local industry, schools, and everyone who calls our island home. In fact, we have been ranked as the number one university in the world for climate action, showcasing our dedication to sustainability and making a positive difference in the world.
One of the unique aspects of our institution is the opportunity to study in Tasmania, a state that turns everyone into an outdoors person. With its breathtaking landscapes and outdoor recreational activities, Tasmania offers a truly remarkable environment for learning and personal growth. Our students, like Gemma Rushton and Upadhya Anjalie Balachandra, have found inspiration in Tasmania's natural beauty and have pursued degrees that align with their passions.
Tasmania is renowned for its commitment to renewable energy and hydroelectricity, and as the only university in the state, our students have unrivaled access to industry connections and opportunities. Our graduates, such as Bunfu Yu, have excelled in their fields and received national recognition for their outstanding achievements.
We are constantly reimagining education at our campuses, with a focus on providing a good education to as many Tasmanians as possible. By transforming our university, we aim to strengthen and future-proof our ability to fulfill this mission. Join us at events such as the Tasmanian Australian of the Year discussion or the Plimsoll Lecture by Dr. Sean Turnell to gain insights into the opportunities and challenges facing our community.
If you're considering joining the College of Arts, Law and Education, we invite you to explore our campuses and get a taste of uni life. Hear firsthand from our students and teaching staff about our courses, pathways, and scholarships. Register for our upcoming events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston to stay updated and connect with us.
We are proud to announce that four early-career researchers from the University of Tasmania have been awarded significant funding by the Australian Research Council. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting research and innovation across various disciplines.
In addition, our music students recently had the opportunity to learn from the internationally renowned horn player Stefan Dohr from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Such experiences highlight the caliber of education and opportunities available at our institution.
We recognize the importance of climate change education and its integration into schooling. As Australia participates in international testing, we are pleased to share that environmental topics, including climate change, will be included in the next round of testing.
We understand that our students often juggle multiple passions and interests, just like Jay Hennicke, who successfully balanced being a pro freestyle footballer, childcare worker, law student, and art curator. Our flexible programs and supportive community enable students to pursue their diverse interests and achieve their goals.
Lastly, we are excited to announce that Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick will be embarking on a statewide tour, showcasing the work of women composers. This is just one example of the opportunities available to our music students to showcase their talent and contribute to the arts community.
As we move towards net-zero targets and address the challenges of climate change, we recognize the importance of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Our institution is committed to finding innovative solutions and contributing to a sustainable future.
Join us at the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania and be a part of a community that values excellence, sustainability, and the pursuit of knowledge.
