"Great uni. Great facilities. Highly recommended."
"I suffered at least four gross injustices during my time at Deakin: 1) The cut off date for internal transfer into a course was many months prior to the closing date for new applicants. When I inquired as to the reason for this discrimination, I was told (IKYN) that I am just an evil person who wants to break rules. 2) Contracts for on campus accommodation require students to pay out the full term even though if they choose to leave they are, a) no longer allowed to use the room, and b) not allowed to find another tenant for the room. Obviously this makes it extremely hard to leave. 3) There is a pervasive culture that students are expected to kowtow to staff. I was threatened with a write up for being abusive to staff, even though I was careful not to be abusive, but challenging any decision or policy is apparently deemed abuse. 4) The rubrics for many assessments are so vague (Ba Design) that assessors can practically give any grade they please without much more than token accountability. I had one assessment marked as P by one assessor and HD by another. The fact that that such a great difference is possible based on "professional opinion" speaks volumes as to how much real content was in the (2 credit point!) unit in the first place. In case you think I am just a whinging, difficult person, let me say this, I have been studying at Alphacrucis College for a semester now and the difference is like night and day. I am happier as a student at AC than I even knew was possible! They attitude Deakin takes to education is reminiscent of so called factory farms. The fact that policies apparently need to be engineered to make it difficult for students to leave either their course or their campus, to me, sums up the kind of institution this is."
"Yeah it's a nice place, staff are great but seriously, 0 out of 10 not having a backup generator in case of a power outage. Please get a backup generator! Graduation ceremonies had to be delayed because of the power outage in Geelong and this exposed the fact that Deakin has no backup generators here. The hallways were dark and there were people bumping into each other and one lady even tripped and fell on the floor."
"I came from Melbourne Uni and visited the Geelong Waterfront Campus for only 1 day. To me as an outlandish visitor, this campus had spectacular ocean view and compact architecture design. I gave only 4 stars to match the current average rating because there were so many reviews that complain about teaching and staffs behaviours."
"The Waterfront campus is a beautiful building and definitely the ideal location to study Architecture and the Built Environment! A view like no other! It's stunning accents and light filled spaces make it very easy to feel good on campus. With a solid combination of indoor and outdoor environments for all concerned. The education will be personal preference, but I love their approach to aiding self-guided learning."
