Welcome to The Barwon Infant Study!

Located in Geelong, Australia, at 285 Ryrie Street, The Barwon Infant Study (BIS) is a renowned establishment in the field of health and child development. As a major birth cohort study, BIS has been operating since 2010 under the supervision of the Child Health Research Unit (CHRU) at Barwon Health, in collaboration with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) and Deakin University.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our participants for their ongoing involvement and support, as it is through their dedication that our BIS researchers are able to answer crucial questions about child development and discover innovative ways to enhance our overall health. With over 1000 participants since birth and no new recruitment since 2013, our participants are an invaluable asset in improving health outcomes for children.

We are thrilled to share that BIS has reached a significant milestone, with our eldest participants now embarking on their journey into school life! To celebrate this exciting phase, we have initiated BIS Primary School Reviews and are eager to witness the growth of our BIS babies into confident school children over the coming years. In light of the current global pandemic, The Barwon Infant Study has temporarily suspended all research activities at schools to prioritize the safety and well-being of our participants. However, our dedicated research team continues to work diligently, booking in-clinic appointments and exploring innovative measures that can be implemented during this period.
