About the Business
Welcome to the UOW Makerspace, a vibrant and inclusive creative space located at North Wollongong, Squires Way, 60. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to providing both new and experienced makers with access to tools, equipment, and training.
At UOW Makerspace, we believe in fostering a supportive and exploratory environment for everyone in the community who is interested in creating, repairing, inventing, tinkering, or learning-by-doing. Whether you're a student, staff member, or a member of the public, our doors are open to you.
Our facility offers a wide range of equipment, including a laser cutter, multiple 3D printers, a water jet cutter, sewing machine, heat press, and various hand and power tools. We provide expert training on how to use these tools, and our knowledgeable staff are always available to offer support, advice, and help brainstorm ideas.
As an establishment committed to promoting creativity and innovation, we offer themed workshops and general maker sessions for individuals and groups. These workshops cover various making techniques such as laser cutting, 3D printing, electronics, textiles, and more. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, our workshops cater to all skill levels.
In addition, we also offer general maker sessions for those who simply want to come in and use the equipment or space, similar to a gym. Our friendly staff are on hand to teach you how to operate the machines and ensure you feel comfortable getting started.
Currently, the UOW Makerspace is open free of charge to students and staff, and the latest opening times can be found on the door of the Makerspace (6.113) or by emailing [email protected]. We have also implemented a COVID-19 Safe Operational Plan to ensure a safe environment for all visitors in accordance with government and UOW policies.
When you visit the UOW Makerspace, you'll find not only a wide range of equipment but also ample space to brainstorm your ideas and plenty of table space for design and creativity. "Makerspace is an amazing facility available to the public to learn how to use 3D printers, a laser cutter and jet cutter and to use these on your own projects. I took out a monthly membership (at a great price) so my son could complete 3D printing for a school project. Upon seeing all the technology available, his creativity and innovation has been spurred further to use other equipment available there. A shoutout to the friendly and enthusiastic team at Makerspace who help guide and support learning and skill development so even if you are a newbie to the technology, you’ll be able to confidently run the machines yourself. There’s workshops which are regularly run with a good range of topics. I’m grateful to have discovered Makerspace and don’t believe that it has been such a secret in the Illawarra. Would highly recommend it."
