Welcome to the UOW Building 6 SMART Infrastructure Facility, one of the largest research institutions in the world dedicated to helping governments and businesses better plan for the future. Located in Keiraville, Northfields Avenue, Australia, our facility is an establishment and point of interest that operates within the prestigious University of Wollongong.

At SMART, we bring together experts from various fields such as rail, infrastructure systems, transport, water, energy, economics, and modeling and simulation. With our state-of-the-art laboratories, we facilitate groundbreaking research in these areas. Our aim is to address the big challenges in the infrastructure sector and find innovative solutions that will shape the future.

We take pride in our extensive global network of collaborators, which allows us to develop key international partnerships and collaborations. Recognizing the need for more integrated approaches to planning, we have developed Vision Illawarra, a web-based regional dashboard. This platform enables evidence-based planning and integrated development across the Illawarra region. Additionally, in collaboration with the University of Wollongong, we have deployed an Internet of Things (IoT) network across the region to support high-impact community-oriented projects.

Our commitment to excellence and innovation has attracted attention from influential figures, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who visited our Wollongong campus. We have also partnered with VisualCortex to drive computer vision innovation and foster industry-research collaboration.

As we explore the intersection of infrastructure and social behavior, we bring together experts in economics, modeling, data analytics, and system engineering. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that our research considers the human aspect, creating more livable cities and regions for all.
