About the Business
Welcome to the Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre, located at 27 Crescent Road in Waratah, Australia. As a well-established institution, we have been serving the community for almost 5 years. Our family-operated centre is led by Sensei Abi, the head instructor, and her mother Shalene, who manages the front desk. Together, they create a harmonious environment where learning and growth thrive.
At the Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre, we pride ourselves on our friendly family atmosphere. We offer a variety of classes suitable for all ages, shapes, and sizes. Whether you're interested in Chitokai Karate, Okinawan weaponry, or Xtreme martial arts, we have something for everyone. Our team of black belt instructors and assistants from the Leadership program ensures that every class is well-structured and engaging.
One of our core values is self-defense, and we place a strong emphasis on anti-bullying. Our instructors are passionate about empowering our students to protect themselves and build confidence. With their guidance, you will learn valuable skills that can be applied both inside and outside the dojo.
Sensei Abi, with her extensive experience in martial arts, serves as an inspiration to our students. Having started her karate journey in 1999, she has achieved a 4th degree black belt in 2019 and a 2nd degree black belt in Matayoshi Kobudo in 2022. She has been teaching at the Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre since 2006 and specifically at the Waratah dojo since its inception in 2014. Sensei Abi is also NCAS Bronze level coaching accredited and holds a Certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness, specializing in martial arts.
Assisting Sensei Abi is Sempai Sha, a 1st kyu in Chitokai Karate and the program director at our Waratah location. Sempai Sha is not only an integral part of our team but also Sensei Abi's lovely mother, adding a personal touch to our centre.
We are also fortunate to have Sensei Nick and Sensei Aiden as part of our dedicated team. Sensei Nick, who started karate in 2016, has achieved his Nidan in 2022 and his Shodan in Matayoshi Kobudo in 2020. He even placed 3rd in his age division in the Okinawa World Tournament in 2022. Sensei Aiden, who began his karate journey in 2015, also attained his Nidan in 2022 and has been a member of the NSW state team from 2019 to 2021. Their expertise and passion for martial arts greatly contribute to the overall experience at the centre.

Reviews
"This is a terrific place to learn martial arts from. My daughter has been coming for nearly a year and thoroughly loves the classes. The management of the dojo is extremely organised and makes dealing with them a pleasure. The teachers have that pleasant 'firm' approach with the kids to keep them in line without belittling them which works wonders when they are learning a discipline like karate."
"Very good and fun."
"Friendly and fun for kids, the team at Waratah HVMAC make it a great session every week, and they take CovidSafe seriously."
