We also offer Music Reading & Theory classes for beginner to intermediate students at two levels. Our entry-level covers basic note reading, rhythm, melody, and harmony, while the next level delves deeper into the elements of music, building on foundational theory.
For those with prior theory knowledge, our Composition & Arranging class explores the language of music through applied score analysis, form investigation, and compositional techniques. You will have the opportunity to dive into writing and arranging your own music.
If you have an interest in indigenous, folk, and non-Western classical musical styles, our World Music class is perfect for you. "I've taken piano classes with Rasa for over a year, starting off as a very beginner. Rasa's teaching is awesome; she prioritises and steps through music theory and technique in a very logical way, with great explanations. I really enjoy the variety of piece selection and the sheet music provided. The group classes are cost efficient and it's generally pretty nice to hear how others are approaching the pieces - I moved to a Zoom class and that was run just as well. Rasa in general is super patient and attentive to each individual learner."
"I confess to being somewhat sceptical about piano classes, having been brought up in the good old tradition of individual lessons. But now I understand how a class can contribute so much more richness to the learning experience. And Rasa does this perfectly. She guides discussion, practice and performance, developing interesting musical points, often quite simple. The result is much more informed playing, and a level of intellectual stimulation and enjoyment that is unsurpassed in any music lessons I have had in the past."
"Rasa is such a breath of fresh air in her teaching approach. In individual lessons she is very attuned to the student rather than forcing technique and the end result is improved confidence, more real progress and a deeper appreciation of each composer’s unique characteristics."
"Rasa's music classes are inspiring, innovative and inclusive. She has opened up a new way of learning and understanding music for me after years of traditional teaching. Rasa invites us to come to our music practice mindfully, and with our peers think about how we approach and create the music. At the same time, she teaches us theory, rigorously and in a timely manner. Rasa is encouraging of everyone no matter what experience of piano playing they bring to the class. Her classes are a joy to attend."
"I have been doing Rasa’s Wednesday morning Music Reading and Theory Class for three terms. Even though I’m quite experienced as a player and have done a lot of music theory in the past, she presents it in such a way that you learn the theory of how to write and understand music rather than just reading a few rules and exercises which you forget later. She teaches about several styles of music which has expanded my knowledge greatly in a few months. I have been so impressed I’m now also doing private lessons with her (if I had more time I would do her advanced group class as well). She is an excellent teacher, giving useful tips on how to practice, play and write music."
