About the Business
Welcome to Araluen Botanic Park, a hidden gem nestled deep within a valley in the Perth Hills of Australia. This extraordinary garden is set in a breathtaking bushland setting, offering a unique experience for visitors.
Spread across 59 hectares of West Australian native forest, Araluen Botanic Park features 14 hectares of beautifully developed gardens. These gardens are home to thousands of plants that thrive in the rich soils and supportive micro-climate of this valley, which is located across the Darling Scarp of the Perth hills. With loam soils, high rainfall, and cold winters, Araluen Botanic Park boasts a unique micro-climate that provides an unmatched opportunity to cultivate exotic and cool climate plants in Western Australia.
The history of Araluen Botanic Park dates back to the late 1920s when the founder of the Young Australia League, JJ "Boss" Simons, was drawn to this valley with a vision of creating a weekend retreat for YAL members to experience the outdoor life. As the Park developed, YAL members brought back plants from their travels around the world, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the Canadian-style log cabins, water features, and pergolas.
Over the course of 20 years, the YAL constructed buildings and unique garden features using locally sourced materials, contributing to the current unique style of Araluen Botanic Park. The Park's esteemed Committee Vice Chairman, John Colwill, has been recognized for his remarkable contributions to horticulture and awarded the distinguished Order of Australia.
Araluen Botanic Park is not only a stunning garden but also a proud supporter of various events and initiatives. We sponsor prestigious awards at the Perth Garden Festival and have been recognized as an International Camellia Garden of Excellence. The Park's stunning bushland landscape serves as a backdrop for music concerts, treasure hunts, civic events, garden festivals, weddings, and live art exhibitions throughout the year.
At Araluen Botanic Park, volunteering is at the heart of our foundation. Our highly professional committee, made up of ten skilled volunteer members, oversees the governance of the organization and provides direction to the General Manager. Additionally, our dedicated volunteer garden groups have been actively maintaining the Park's beauty for over 15 years.
We invite you to explore Araluen Botanic Park and immerse yourself in the beauty of this natural oasis. Check our website for upcoming events and activities, and don't miss out on the seasonal school holiday activities that are always in high demand.

"Went for the tulip exhibition with the family! The kids had a fun time and the weather was great to walk around. The food trucks were a great addition as we snacked on juice and soft serve. Recommended for a family day outing. Don’t forget to bring a picnic mat!"
