About the Business
Welcome to Marie Carmody Psychology, located in the vibrant neighborhood of West End, Australia. My name is Marie, and I am a registered clinical psychologist dedicated to helping adults overcome a wide range of clinical and non-clinical health issues. With a background in teaching and coaching, I utilize integrative relational psychotherapy techniques, including Jungian and solutions-focused therapies, to provide a diverse range of treatment options.
At Marie Carmody Psychology, we understand that emotional pain often stems from unresolved distress that is carried in both the mind and body. Whether you are facing challenges at work, in your relationships, or struggling with your self-image, we can work together to discover a new way for you to experience the world and find a more comfortable way to live in your own skin.
Our therapy approach is highly collaborative and mutually respectful, emphasizing the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship. By engaging in an integrative mind-body-focused healing experience, we aim to help you develop a more cohesive sense of self. Each individual client is valued and treated with respect, safety, and acceptance.
Exciting news! We have recently relocated from Wickham Terrace to our new clinic within the Healthcare Hub at Montague Markets, West End. This premier inner Brisbane city 'One Stop Shop' healthcare destination is a dedicated medical precinct on the first floor of Montague Markets, offering a convenient and accessible location for all your health needs. There is ample undercover free car parking available with a 2-hour limit.
Montague Markets itself is a mixed-use commercial, retail, and residential development situated near the beautiful Brisbane River. With a Woolworths and various retail stores and cafes on the ground floor, it provides a vibrant and convenient environment for our clients.
At Marie Carmody Psychology, we specialize in addressing a range of issues, including single incident and complex trauma (PTSD/complex trauma), personality difficulties (particularly borderline and narcissist traits), interpersonal relationship issues (intimate, family, workplace), stress, fatigue, workplace or cyber bullying, mood changes (such as feeling angry, irritable, anxious, or depressed), issues with self-esteem and feelings of emptiness, adjustments to major life changes (e.g. job change, retirement, chronic illness diagnoses), grief and loss, life/personal/executive coaching, self-esteem and self-development, and workplace issues.
Rest assured, I am fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA), the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy (IARPP).

"Marie is excellent. The first psychologist I’ve been to who didn’t blame all the external factors and wasn’t wooly and “soft”. She took the time to explain the historical and childhood reasons for the way we feel. If you do not want to work on yourself and put in the work, she is not for you. But if you want to work, do it. Do the work and trust the process."
"I saw Marie for a long time (2ish years). If you're after an analytical person who can help you understand the reason behind why your brain does certain things, she's the one for you. She's great at breaking down trauma and helping you figure that stuff out. Unfortunately I can say she does let her own biases get in the way of good therapy. If you're a part of the queer community and want to discuss it, I'd steer clear. I feel that she is stuck in her ways and is often very quick to "diagnose" people around you purely based on your own anecdotes, which isn't entirely healthy. She was exactly what I needed when I needed it. She was great at working through past and current trauma, and helping me maintain coping mechanisms to deal with it. I do think that she did had a level of countertranferance that was probably unhealthy, but at the time I had so much going on I didn't really notice it. When you get down to it, if you JUST have trauma and have an analytical mind and want to work through it like that, Marie is perfect. If you have anything else or just don't work like that, perhaps find someone who's a little more open minded."
"Disappointingly inconsistent. At her best Marie offered some very useful insights and reflections. At her worst Marie was disrespectful and exhibited aggressive behaviour which was confusing and hurtful. Clearly Marie is theoretically knowledgeable; as to whether you will personally receive adequate support for your needs when the chips are down, is a case of red or black."
"Absolutely appalled with the way i have been treated. After being advised i would incur a cancellation fee, i decided to keep my appointment. Instead, Marie Carmody diverted all my calls, refused to reply to my emails, and then took $185 out of my bank account for a cancellation fee, even though i had advised i was going to attend. I cannot believe i was referred by my GP in West End, her license should be revoked!"
"Marie is the most beautiful psychologist you will ever work with. She has had a recent death in the family and it is such a shame that grief sometimes plays out cruelly and in this case it has unfortunately played out in this instance with the comments found here in her review. I wish her my sincerest condolences for her loss and hope she can take this page down as quickly as possible."
