Welcome to the Queensland Futures Institute (QFI), located in the heart of Brisbane City on Eagle Street. As a unique partnership between academic, business, community and social services, government, industry, and research organizations, our mission is to drive faster economic and social growth through collaborative public policy reform.

At the QFI, we believe in the power of thought leadership and the importance of solutions-focused policies and ideas. That's why we facilitate a diverse range of premium forums aimed at supporting and amplifying these initiatives. Our goal is to deliver the best possible future for Queensland's New Economy.

Our flagship publication, the 'Opportunities for Growth' Report, has identified five strategic foundations that are essential for accelerating Queensland's economic growth. By focusing on these foundations, we can create a solid base from which to build a prosperous future.

Over the years, Queensland has been marketed in various ways, but these campaigns have not provided a long-term vision. To take advantage of new and emerging growth opportunities, we believe in creating a clear and powerful narrative that reflects Queensland's strengths and communicates its future direction both within the state and to the rest of Australia and the world.

While Queensland's economic strengths, such as resources, tourism, agriculture, construction, and education and training, have provided a strong foundation, these industries are susceptible to 'boom and bust' patterns due to their dependence on population growth, the environment, and global export markets. To mitigate this risk, we advocate for diversifying existing industries and creating new ones to spread economic activity and reduce reliance on any single industry for growth. We also believe in transforming well-established industries to unlock new economic opportunities, particularly in regional areas that possess valuable knowledge and experience.

We recognize that Queensland's resources and energy sectors have significant potential for further growth by addressing key environmental challenges. To leverage these opportunities, we emphasize the importance of developing a long-term strategy for the energy sector, managing international environmental commitments, and securing community support for industry developments.

In addition to our focus on economic growth, we are committed to supporting inclusive growth in Queensland's regions. While concentrating on a single industry has exposed regional economies to 'boom and bust' cycles, it has also allowed these regions to develop expertise and experience in traditional industries that align with future growth opportunities. However, diversifying regional economies and pursuing new growth opportunities can be challenging. We advocate for investment in areas such as connectivity, digital inclusion, and education to empower regional centers to leverage their existing strengths and foster a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.

At the Queensland Futures Institute, we also recognize and pay respect to the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge and extend our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Queensland.
