About the Business
Welcome to The Chill Cafe BierGarten, a cozy and inviting establishment located at 7 Dickson Street in Wooloowin, Australia. Our cafe is not just your ordinary eatery; it is a labor of love and a testament to the resilience and determination of its owners, Hana and Carsten.
In October 2017, Hana and Carsten embarked on a journey to open their dream cafe. They stumbled upon the perfect location, the very cafe that Carsten had admired for years. Leaving behind his secure job as a Phlebotomist at The Prince Charles Hospital, Carsten, a qualified chef from Germany, took a leap of faith to pursue his passion for the culinary arts alongside Hana.
The couple poured their hearts and souls into renovating and setting up the cafe, doing everything themselves, from sanding the floors to building the counter. The community quickly took notice of their efforts, and curiosity brought locals to their doors. Carsten eagerly shared his plans of offering delicious breakfast and lunch options, despite receiving mixed responses ranging from well wishes to cautious skepticism.
On November 4th, 2017, The Chill Cafe BierGarten opened its doors to the public. The outdoor seating was humble, with second-hand plastic chairs and tables placed on cracked asphalt. However, this did not deter Carsten and Hana from gradually transforming the space. With the support and involvement of the community, they made continuous improvements, such as creating an outdoor area under the trees with granite gravel and turf.
The cafe's popularity grew, and full table service was introduced. The Friday Dinner Nights became a highlight, with beautifully illuminated trees and a cozy firepit, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere.
However, in its third year of operation, The Chill Cafe BierGarten faced an unexpected challenge - the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. During lockdowns, the cafe remained closed to prioritize the safety of staff and customers. Carsten and Hana utilized this time to renovate and rebrand the cafe, giving it a German touch and transforming it into The Chill Cafe BierGarten.
The concept now revolves around German food and embraces the lively ambiance of a traditional Biergarten. Just as they were about to embark on this new chapter, Hana received a shocking diagnosis of cancer. Yet, in the face of adversity, the community rallied around them, becoming not just customers but friends who offered their support during the renovation and helped alleviate Carsten's burden.
With the renovation complete, The Chill Cafe BierGarten stands as a testament to resilience and community spirit. It has received recognition and awards, but above all, it stands as a symbol of hope and triumph over adversity. Hana's recovery from cancer has filled Carsten and Hana with renewed energy and gratitude.
As we step into 2022, The Chill Cafe BierGarten is ready to embrace the next chapter and continue serving its loyal customers with delicious German cuisine and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Please note that our kitchen closes 30 minutes prior to our closing time.
Join us at The Chill Cafe BierGarten, where good food, good company, and an unwavering spirit come together to create an unforgettable experience.

"Everything is amazing from here. Been here once for lunch and once for breakfast and both times the place was perfect. Food is some of the best German food I have ever had and they serve German beer of course! Highly recommended."
"A pleasant surprise! I can’t say I have ever had eggs Benedict on a pretzel but god it was good. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, fast service and most importantly delicious food. Pricing and portion sizes were great and there is heaps of outdoor seating space. I will definitely be coming here again."
"My partner and I’s favourite restaurant! We come here regularly and love the currywurst and the schnitzel. The setting is beautiful and the owner is so lovely. I can’t recommended this place enough!"
"A great restaurant with German fare. I loved the eggs Benedict. It had a twist being on a pretzel and with a German sausage. Yum! Portion size was great. My friend ordered the schnitzel and it was huge. You can add all sorts of extras and make changes through the ordering app. I'd love to go there again if I get the chance. Good coffee too!"
