"Thrilled with our experience at Momiji Japanese Restaurant! The Kaisen don and Karage bento were exceptionally flavorful and delicious. The dishes exceeded our expectations in taste and presentation. A definite go-to spot for authentic and mouthwatering Japanese cuisine. Can't wait to return for more culinary delights!"
"Wow wow wow. What a wonderful little Japanese restaurant. Almost perfect. The takoyaki is just right. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Generous tako pieces and not drowning in sauce. A plus. Love that the udon comes in small size. Quite tasty but noodle was on softer side than I like. Broth tasty. Miso soup also very tasty and not too much msg. Also for the blue tuna platter. What a wonderful experience. Upper and lower belly cuts and tuna back. A bit sinew and hard to chew so wouldn't order again. Would just order tuna back only. Now I almost gave this place a 3 simply because the rice for sushi is bad. I mean it tastes weirdly sweet and falls apart in your mouth into tiny separate grains. Like unfresh sushi rice that's been in the chiller! Overall left feeling very wholesome and not dehydrated. But because of the rice I don't think we will ever come back. Too many other Japanese restaurants that are just better."
"Very cosy and friendly! We had croquettes, takoyaki, pork gyoza, large sashimi platter, shirashi kaisen, okonomiyaki and two delicious sakes."
"No doubt I love this place, so does my Aussie wife because of the food. I feel the restaurant is run by Japanese. If it is, fantastic!!! However, I called to book a table on a week day for lunch. They said "just walk in. It'll be ok". Luckily, we had a table as we walked in. If we came in 15min later, we ended up in a que for a table for who knows how long. AVOID 12-13pm to dine-in here. FOH service at a peak time is not organised unless you have some spare time. We were there at 12. We got our glasses of water at 12:20. My sake arrived at 12:35. Then, the food followed gradually. Chicken Karaage for me, entree sashimi for my wife to start. Followed by seafood yakisoba and unagi lunch set. The yakisoba came with a salad which I simply thought it was a unique approach. The menu doesn't tell you what the "set" means. For instance, my wife's unagi set, we had to ask what the set meant. After, the unagi Don came with fukusin-zuke, marinated wakame and a salad. From my perspective, it was so weird, but at the same time I thought it had been an adjusted version to accommodate the local clients. Actually, my wife really enjoyed it. This restaurant is a bit pricey one compared with the others around it but the food overall is second to none. Ask for "shime-saba". It's a to-die-for dish that is NOT on their menu but it seems they usually have it. I also hope they will have pork on their menu soon."
"Momiji is an absolute gem, nestled in a corner of Newstead. It serves beautifully executed, traditional Japanese eats with friendly service. Compared to a few other Japanese restaurants in the area, it is a couple of $’s more expensive, however the quality and portions size makes up for it. Looking forward to my next visit."
