"You won't be disappointed going to Kengu ramen!! Beautiful thick broth like nowhere else ,eggs to be jealous of and your choice of Noodles. Its not the "ichiran" ramen some people hunt for but it's unique and damn delicious. Never had a bad bowl from there, literally any ramen you order will be amazing!! * edit* Moved to Robertson village and its still the same amazing ramen and flavour. Whatever you choose will be a top notch bowl. Most welcoming staff and easy to order."
"Was recommended by a friend about this place. The ramen is so good. Everyone who review the broth are 100% on point. The broth was the highlight and so delicious. I tried the Kengu’s signature."
"Over rated home made noodles! Tasted to powdery, and overwhelmed the broth! If you want a Japanese dish! Go to a Japanese restaurant, not here! This is a terribly poor take on ramen. The menu has 4/5 different cups of rubbish, which just have either chilli or garlic added to the traditional dish, which in my opinion is just lazy and disrespectful. Also why are there so many onions added? Is this their way to standing out in a crowd? If so, they are the kids on the play ground with fleas that no one wants to play with? Also the seating is terrible, and the smells of the kitchen/dirty floors or whatever the god awful smells are make the dining experience one you shouldnt have to go through. You cant have a conversation with friends or damily without hearing other peoples conversations, the noise echos as you are sitting almost next to the other customers. Its a tiny little glass box and there isnt any fans or aircon, with the position of the sun in the afternoons makes this glass box super hot and very unbearable to try enjoy a tasteless poor interpretation of ramen. Highly recommend giving this place a skip, there are to many ramen restaurants to go to other then this poor Chinese take on a Japanese dish! Dont go through what we went through here please, save yourself some money and time! Also this sign is a joke, trust me no one is sitting here longer then they have to!"
"New ramen place at South side focusing on Tonkotsu ramen. Both the interior design and overall service is fairly minimalistic. However, they just work and you will get your ramen in the end. The owner didn’t employ a second person during lunch rush hour so allocate some time to wait for him to finish orders and prepare the meal. The broth is good. Classic tonkotsu broth. Definitely lived up to the hype. The noodle is alright. I prefer the regular ramen noodle. Topping is interesting… wood ear fungus and onion ramen ? Ok. Overall, it’s a ramen experience with a minimalistic twist"
"Kengu's new place in Robertson Village has a clean, minimalistic design and a menu focussing on Tonkatsu broth. Nick the owner makes his pork broth and noodles from scratch, fresh. If you're used to eating at mainstream ramen franchises, you may not fully appreciate his craft as the presentation and taste are unique. (It's his own recipe.) We had the Kengu Tonkatsu Ramen and Kengu's Signature Ramen (adding Japanese dried fish to the broth), both with house-made thick noodles. Nick was very generous with the sliced cha siu servings. I loved the broth but it was a bit too creamy and rich for my wife. I ended up drinking hers as well. I recommend whoever visits Kengu to have a chat with Nick - you'll no doubt be able to sense his passion for ramen, and see he's not in it for the money. He's a passionate chef who wants to share the best version of his ramen recipe with the community."
