Iam a new customer of SS Auto's and gave them a call to see if they could squeeze in checking my vehicle after the check engine light came on yesterday - which I was very stressed about. When I arrived this afternoon they were clearly very busy, but Tom looked at my car straight away. He diagnosed the issue, popped out to get the necessary part, and then ran tests to ensure the issue was resolved. I was back on the road within 40min with the issue completely resolved. "I did my research to find a good local mechanic, found SS Autos with a perfect rating on Google and thought I'd give them a try. The car I brought to them was a 2002 Holden Berlina VXII suffering a misfire under load. They had the car for 3 weeks. $900 later and a whole bunch of parts replaced (spark plugs, leads, fuel filter) and injectors cleaned, crank angle sensor "checked", they were unable to fix the problem. Was given the diagnosis that damage to the keyway on the crank was the most likely culprit, and to repair would cost approximately $1500 more because the front of the engine would have to be torn down. Did not proceed with further repair. Took the car back, on the way home the engine suddenly dies. Was difficult to start up again, but managed to get it home. Over the next few days, the car would start up, run for a few minutes and suddenly die. Engine would then crank but refuse to start. Sought a second opinion and had the car towed to another mechanic, who diagnosed a fault with the crank angle sensor that same day. Furthermore, they found that one of the spark plugs replaced by SS Autos had a crack. Picture included for reference. SS Autos, if you replace parts and the problem isn't fixed, either refit the original parts and don't charge the customer, or if you're gonna charge the customer for new parts that aren't needed, at least return the old working ones for spares. TLDR: Paid $900 to get a whole bunch of parts replaced. Didn't fix the problem. Parts improperly fitted and broken. Didn't get original working parts back. Crank angle sensor and cracked spark plug replaced by another mechanic. Car now drives like a dream."
