About the Business
Welcome to Shindo Karate Williamstown, located in the vibrant suburb of Williamstown North, at 15 Bentley Street. As a well-established institution, we pride ourselves on being a leading establishment in the field of health and fitness, and a point of interest for karate enthusiasts in Australia.
At Shindo Karate Williamstown, we are privileged to have Sempai Julie and Sensei Josh as our dedicated instructors, who collectively possess over 20 years of experience in teaching and training karate. Our dojo in Williamstown has been serving the community for over two decades, and in recent years, we have witnessed remarkable success in various competitions, with our students consistently achieving medal-winning performances. This success can be attributed to the exceptional coaching and guidance of Sensei Josh, who is a mentor and coach to our aspiring competitors.
In addition to our comprehensive Karate Program, we also offer training in traditional Okinawan weaponry. Sensei Josh, being a 1st Dan in Kobudo, teaches this art under the expertise of Shihan Hennie de Vries, through the Australian Ryukyu Kobudo Association. This unique offering sets us apart from other dojos in the area, providing our students with a well-rounded martial arts experience.
At Williamstown Dojo, we have a proven track record of instilling self-focus, discipline, and improved fitness through our distinctive style of training. Many of our students have embarked on their journey towards achieving a black belt and have experienced immense competitive success under our guidance.
It is important to note that students are only permitted to progress to higher levels once they are deemed ready by our experienced instructors. Additionally, please be aware that there are no Little Ninja classes during school holidays, and the school holiday timetable for regular classes is subject to change, with the exception of January. Age restrictions are also in place for Kobudo lessons, as they are separate from karate training.
We take pride in our instructors' qualifications and skills, with Sensei Josh holding a 3rd Dan Karate Black Belt and a 1st Dan in Kobudo. He is also a certified instructor of Williamstown Dojo and has represented the nation as a former national competitor. Furthermore, he possesses 20 years of karate experience and is accredited with NCAS Level 1, First Aid certification, and a Working with Children's Check. In recognition of his exceptional skills, Sensei Josh was awarded the prestigious Black Belt of the Year in 2016.
At Shindo Karate Williamstown, our motto is to "be your own rival" and strive to be better than you were the previous day. We believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where students can challenge themselves and reach their full potential.

"My son started Karate as a junior 5yo with Shindo Williamstown and progressed all the way to 1st Dan with the dojo. I recommend karate as a great way for boys and girls to gain physical confidence, self discipline and self defence skills. Shindo Williamstown is a supportive, family oriented local club and a great part of our community."
"great place to train"
