Guild Theatre 761 Swanston Street, Parkville, Victoria 3052
About the Business
Welcome to Guild Theatre, located at 761 Swanston Street in Parkville, Australia. Our institution is a vibrant cultural hub housed in the Arts and Cultural Building, which serves as the new home to our iconic Union and Guild Theatres. Situated on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, our building promotes connectedness through arts, culture, and music.
Designed by students, for students, the Arts and Cultural Building is the result of the input and expertise of over 20,000 staff and students. It is a place where creativity flourishes and inclusivity is celebrated. Whether you're looking for performances, exhibitions, study spaces, or landscaped balconies, our building offers something for everyone.
Within the Arts and Cultural Building, you will find the Union Theatre, a state-of-the-art 398-seat proscenium arch theatre equipped with an orchestra pit, automated flying system, and industry-standard audio and lighting production capacity. This theatre is suitable for a wide range of professional theatre presentations, concerts, and events.
The Guild Theatre, on the other hand, is a flexible 102-seat 'black box' theatre with retractable seating, industry-standard audio and lighting systems. It serves as a space for various theatre productions, workshops, and events.
In addition to the theatres, students have access to other performance-related facilities such as fully equipped rehearsal spaces, a theatre workshop for stage and prop production, multiple dressing rooms, and a theatre bar and box office that operates during show times.
If you're a student interested in getting involved in theatre on campus, be sure to visit UMSU's Union House Theatre for information on upcoming events and opportunities.
Our Arts and Cultural Building also houses UMSU's George Paton Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that encourages experimental, collaborative, and pedagogical approaches to contemporary art. Students from all disciplines are invited to participate in the gallery's annual program of exhibitions and events.
For those looking to unleash their creativity, the UMSU Arts Lab provides a large workshop space equipped with long tables, easels, and a wide range of art supplies. This space is open to all students and offers the opportunity to engage in immersive workshops run by diverse artists and makers.
Accessibility and inclusivity were key considerations in the design of our building. We are proud to be on track to receive a 6-Star Green Star building accreditation, showcasing our commitment to sustainability in all aspects of university life.
When it comes to dining options, the Arts and Cultural Building has you covered. Opening soon, ST.ALi promises pizzas to perfection, while Gong cha, the fastest growing tea brand in Asia, offers freshly prepared bubble tea. Additionally, we have a one-stop shop that provides grab-and-go food and drinks, ready-to-heat meals, stationery, everyday items, and even dry-cleaning services.
Come and experience the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere of the Arts and Cultural Building at Guild Theatre. We are dedicated to fostering creativity, connecting communities, and providing a platform for artistic expression.
