About the Business
Welcome to Melbourne Break Dance Bentleigh East Studio, located at 116 McKinnon Road, McKinnon. We are thrilled to announce that break dancing is now an Olympic sport starting in 2023, and we are here to help you learn the coolest dance out there with our Australian All-Star and champion BBoy Flyin Foxy.
Whether you are a beginner or advanced, our classes cater to all levels, so you can take your skills from zero to hero. Our experienced teacher, BBoy Flyin' Foxy, is a local competitor who has showcased his skills at the world championships in the South Korean Olympic stadium.
We offer classes at various locations across Metropolitan Melbourne. Join us at 4 Warruga Avenue in Bayswater on Thursdays from 5pm-7pm, St. Stephen's Anglican Church Hall in McKinnon on Fridays from 5pm-7pm, and Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance in North Melbourne on Saturdays from 11am-1pm.
Break dancing is not only a fun and exciting dance form but also a great activity for kids who lack confidence or physical strength. It combines acrobatics, dance, and music, and mastering a move requires practice rather than strength. We have seen that our students who are smaller or shy benefit greatly from mastering a skill that sets them apart.
Moreover, breaking is a fantastic way to encourage family bonding. Siblings who learn how to break together become more supportive of each other and can even compete or perform together, with their family watching and cheering them on.
Break dancing extends into other styles of dance as it incorporates elements of musicality, acrobatics, and strength and flexibility. At Melbourne Break Dance, we are committed to instilling discipline and promoting a healthy lifestyle among our students, laying a strong foundation for their future.
Australia's break dance scene revolves around a strong body, mind, and spirit. Leading break dancers brand themselves around healthy and positive lifestyles and competition. Breaking originated from the funk and soul music of the 1970s and remains popular within the breaking community today, focusing on melody and funky breakdown beats rather than following mainstream and commercial "hip hop" music.
Girls break too! In fact, we have noticed that girls tend to pick up the moves faster and have a natural advantage in terms of flexibility, giving them an edge in certain moves. One of our Rhythm Faction crew members is a female and a multi-national champion!
At Melbourne Break Dance, we not only teach break dancing but also help students form crews and teams for competitions both locally and interstate. We have also created the first break dance grading system, which allows students to track their progression while building their strength, flexibility, memory, and improvisation skills.
Performances, competitions, and similar events make for a great family day out. Our students love to show off their new skills to their friends and families. Competing and performing have done wonders for building their confidence and social skills, such as teamwork and sportsmanship.
Visit our website to check out a sample playlist of some of the most popular break beats that bboys and bgirls love to dance to. Enroll now to secure your spot as spaces are limited. "Foxy is a wonderful and professional BD teacher. My son enjoyed it very much."
"Great breakdancing school with a talented and caring teacher/director who has extensive experience, expertise, and industry knowledge to share with the students."
"My son loved his experience here and we were happy that everything was very well organized and professional while also being lots of fun."
"My daughter has been coming to MBD for the last three years and it has truly been an influencing factor in the wonderful human being she is growing into. She has learned to push her body and mind to do things she never thought she could. The teachers are amazing, treating the children with respect, interest and resilience, whilst inspiring them to do some pretty amazing stuff. The children form great friendships and the community is so welcoming and warm, there is definitely no intimidation! They cater for so many different types of kids... those that need a bit of a confidence push, those that “walk to the beat of their own drum”, those that may have trouble concentrating... I’ve seen all types of kids thrive and grow over these years."
