Welcome to the Romsey Mechanics' Institute (RMI), a historical establishment located at 122 Main Street in Romsey, Australia. Our institution holds great significance as it was first established in 1875 with the construction of a wooden building. In 1884, a larger building was erected on the same site, and after a devastating fire in 1904, the front of the RMI was rebuilt with two storeys, thanks to the support of the Masonic Lodge.

The RMI is a "Not For Profit" organization run entirely by a dedicated volunteer Committee of Management (CoM). Our main hall and various other rooms are available for public use, catering to both regular user groups such as the RSL and CWA, as well as casual users for events like weddings, funerals, concerts, and birthday parties. As an incorporated body, the CoM operates under the guidance of the Victorian State Government and reports directly to the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP).

Situated on Crown Land, the RMI belongs to the people of Victoria. We do not receive any regular funding from local, state, or federal government sources, nor from private or corporate sponsors. Instead, the CoM is self-funded, relying on fees from regular and casual users. However, each year, we actively seek financial support through grant applications to address major maintenance needs or implement innovative improvements to enhance the building's utility.

When you choose to host your event at the RMI, you will have access to our well-equipped facilities. We provide 18 six-seat tables and over 220 chairs for your convenience. Gas heating is available in the main hall and supper room, with the cost of heating and a refundable bond included in the hire fee. To ensure energy efficiency, the main hall heater has been modified with a two-hour timer switch, making it easy for event organizers to control its operation. In the supper room, heaters can be switched on and off directly at the unit, so we kindly request hirers to read and follow the instructions to avoid costly repairs due to incorrect usage.
