About the Business
Welcome to Canterbury Primary School, located in the picturesque eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. As you step through our front gates, you'll be greeted by the sight of two magnificent oak trees, planted over a century ago in 1905. These majestic trees serve as a symbol of our school's rich history, spanning an impressive 115 years. The oak trees hold a special place in the hearts of our students, who often gather beneath their branches, affectionately referring to one of them as the 'friendship tree'.
At Canterbury Primary School, we take pride in our commitment to fostering a sense of community and inclusivity. Earlier this year, our House Captains spearheaded a bill through our CPS Parliamentary Program, leading to a thorough review of our school's House Names, which had remained unchanged for over 70 years. After extensive consultation with students, staff, and parents, we unveiled our new House Names during a special launch day in November, marking a new chapter in our school's journey.
One of the highlights on our annual calendar is the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book Week, a cherished event that has been bringing children and books together since 1945. Take a look at the video above to catch a glimpse of the vibrant book parade that took place this year, showcasing the creativity and love for literature within our school community.
In August, Canterbury Primary School enthusiastically embraced the theme of National Science Week 2022, which revolved around the concept of glass and its multifaceted nature. Throughout the week, our students engaged in a variety of special learning opportunities and lunchtime activities, further fueling their curiosity and passion for scientific exploration.
As a school deeply rooted in heritage, we acknowledge that Canterbury Primary School is located on Wurundjeri land, belonging to the Kulin Nations. We recognize and honor the profound connections that the traditional owners have with the land, waterways, and skies, spanning thousands of years. We extend our respect to the elders of the Kulin Nation and all Indigenous Australians, past, present, and emerging.
If you have any further inquiries or require additional information beyond what is available on our website, please don't hesitate to contact our School Office. We are here to assist you and provide any necessary support.
Once again, we pay our respects to the Wurundjeri people, the custodians of the land on which Canterbury Primary School stands. We acknowledge their enduring presence and extend our respect to all Indigenous Australians.

"I joined this school 2 yrs ago in yr 5 and it was scary but the teachers and students made me feel welcomed. Great facilities and teachers are dedicated to their jobs. Easy to make friends and there is little to no bullying that i have seen/ experienced. 100% dont regret coming to this school."
"This school receives the most government funding in the state, hence the exceptional facilities. There are many opportunities for students here, especially in the later years. Although the aesthetic of the school is great, there is a lot of corruption here. The principal is known for firing teachers for no reason, leaving students misguided and unable to keep up due to them not having an official teacher for some of the year. The school funds are often used for resources which the school does not need. The school board often decides to prioritise the “maker space” and “chicken shed” over the printing budget and maintenance of the school’s devices. Teachers in high positions also use their power to employ under qualified people in important positions, furthermore crippling the politics of this place. Overall the school provides young students with a decent education but many were left unprepared for high school due to the lack of homework. Besides this the place is okay"
"The school that I loved from the start. Nice staff and kind students. When I was there, we had 3 different principals in 7 years, all in which were nice. Canterbury Primary is amazing."
