About the Business
Welcome to Deutsche Schule Melbourne, a German English Bilingual School located in Fitzroy North on Barkly Street. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a primary school that offers a unique bilingual education to our students.
We are excited to announce that starting in 2025, Deutsche Schule Melbourne will be introducing a secondary school program, beginning with Year 7 and expanding to Year 8 the following year. This expansion will provide our students with a seamless educational journey from primary to secondary school.
In addition, we are thrilled to offer a new Late-Entry Accelerated Pathway starting in 2023. This program is designed to support students who join us later in their educational journey, ensuring they can catch up and thrive in our bilingual environment.
To help you learn more about our school, we invite you to join us for our Information Evening on Wednesday, 13 September, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. During this event, you will have the opportunity to gather detailed information about our secondary school program starting in 2025.
At Deutsche Schule Melbourne, we believe that every new language is like an open window that reveals a new view of the world and expands one's attitude towards life. Our bilingual German-English education not only enhances language skills but also prepares your child to be successful globally.
Since opening our doors in 2008, we have grown significantly and now teach over 160 children from 27 countries, who collectively speak 17 different languages. Currently, we offer classes from Foundation Year to Year 6, but with our expansion into a secondary school in 2025, we will provide education up to Year 7.
We understand the importance of bilingualism in our global world. Being able to communicate in two mother-tongues allows our students to perceive the world from a range of cultural perspectives. Our interactive and interdisciplinary curriculum fosters a global view on life and an appreciation for cultural diversity.
To truly experience what Deutsche Schule Melbourne has to offer, we invite your family to join us for a personal tour of our school. This will provide you with an opportunity to see our facilities, meet our dedicated teachers, and gain a deeper understanding of our bilingual education.
In conclusion, at Deutsche Schule Melbourne, we believe that bilingualism is a gift that lasts a lifetime. It opens doors to new opportunities and broadens horizons. Join us on this incredible journey of language and cultural exploration, and give your child the gift of a bilingual education.

"DSM is such and amazing school, with ups and downs at the school I have had an amazing experience. I’ve made life long friends that I am so grateful for. As I am now in year 8 and not having the best time at high school I realised how I didn’t appreciate the time at this amazing school. I remember thinking how badly I wanted to start high school but now I would give the world to go back to this school. I definitely recommend sending your child/children here if you want to be part of this amazing community that you will only experience here."
"I used to go here and I am aware people may see my review, but I hardly care anymore I’ve heard the terrible terrible things that people have said about me since I have left. At dsm there is a lack in keeping children safe. I had multiple occasions where things were brushed aside and left unnoticed. I would come home with marks made by other students like bite marks and bruises. When I ever I spoke up I was heavily ignored. I wasn’t popular and it being a small school there wasn’t any other options. I was the only one the girls didn’t liand in a class of 14 their was only one girl group my age and they would go and tell a teacher if I tried to ever sit with them. The school are aware of these problems because I don’t just know one but 3 people who’s reviews have been taken down and so I will be screenshotting this and will write another review adding a photo attachment. I felt horrible at this school and every time I look back I cry because of how horribly I was treated. I only know for certain 3 people who were in my class who actually have been nice and talked with me. They also let me know what everyone else in the class was saying about me. It even took heaps of convincing to tell one of them that a rumour that was made a few years ago wasn’t true and they said I had said this even after me saying that it had never happened and I had found out that everyone in the class was talking about this rumour. I hate this school even teachers I know have said infront of my class that she hated me and other friends that also left the school because there educational needs weren’t being recognised. And no they don’t have any learning difficulties and are now very ahead in there learning. I find this RIDICULOUS and do not recommend this school to anyone willing to send there children here. And now you heard an experience from a student going here you know that you can actually see through my eyes. Please listen to me. I will write this again and again and again till I’m recognised. Thank you for reading I hope you change your mind about sending your kids here"
"A great little school with a real community feel and supportive environment. Our two kids love their teachers and friends. In the 6 years we have been at this school, it’s become better resourced and expanded to accommodate varying interests such as coding and chess clubs. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a real immersive bilingual experience."
"Despite 2020 being a very disruptive year with 2 terms being taught at home, the school has been well prepared with their response to course work, student progress and support to both students and families. In our experience, the class teacher has gone above and beyond to keep the kids engaged and motivated during remote learning. Communication from the school is clear and it highlights the nice, supportive communal feel of the school. I look forward to the kids returning to school soon for more enjoyable learning and friendships. Das ist gut !!"
"DSM is a fantastic school. It is one of few schools that offers bilingual education, based on the early immersion concept. This offers a great pathway for kids without any knowledge of German. The school has great educators that are talented, experienced and motivated. They all speak both languages fluently and those who teach the majority of German are native speakers. The school staff and leadership is always helpful and supportive. School leadership and staff always seek improvements and work closely with everyone. The school community is positive and supportive across all grades. Being a smaller school is has a great communal feel. Both of my kids love this school and our family has been on this great journey of education and discovery since 2013."
