Reviews
"Recently enrolled my son into Reading Bees, so I may edit my review in future as it may be a bit too soon to review. So far the experience has been overwhelmingly positive. My son was also at the Shichida program at Highpoint. He struggled in that environment due to the way the Shichida program is structured. Thats not to say Shichida is a bad program. Rather, that my son just didn't enjoy the way it's structured. He would always want to go home early and seemed to struggle with certain learning activities with little improvement after a few terms. So we decided to give reading bees a shot. Immediately from the first session he walked into the big classroom with a sense of eagerness and willingness to learn. Our son has a hard time paying attention and focusing, but the teacher here has been able to manage him and all the other students very well during the hour. It's very admirable how the teachers can accomplish this feat. Our son seems to enjoy the scructure a lot better. Reading bees runs their classes more like what you'd think of when you think of kinder. So lots of group activities that also require individual input, moving around the room from chairs to floor back to chairs, verbal and written activities, and using tools and aids that keep the children fascinated and interested. It is very fortunate that our son took to this format very well, not needing us to be with him at all from day one. This result obviously will vary child to child. With that said, I observe that every child that is happy to be in the room without their parents seem very engaged as a collective. Back at Shichida, there would always be one or two kids drifting off and unfocused. At reading bees the teachers work very hard to refocus kids whenever they start drifting. It is a program primarily focused on literacy. EDIT: But there is also some focus on numeracy (I edited my review to reflect the owners reply). For us though, our main goal is to improve our sons focus and attention in a class environment and to help his speech. So we feel our sons goals are being met."
