About the Business
The Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre, located at 5 Sargood Street in Altona, Australia, is a vibrant and community-owned establishment that serves as a versatile meeting place for a wide range of activities supporting the arts and our local community.
We proudly acknowledge that our institution is situated on the traditional lands of the Yalukit Wilum Nations, and we pay our utmost respect to the Elders of these ancestral lands and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
If you have a passion for creative writing, we invite you to join us for our upcoming workshops where you will learn the basics of this art form and have the opportunity to practice your skills in a supportive class environment. Please note that the first session runs for 3 hours, while the second session is 1 hour in duration. All materials will be provided for this artistic endeavor. Tickets for this workshop are also priced at $30 and can be booked at https://bit.ly/3p63rLa or https://bit.ly/442NRiq.
For those seeking a more holistic experience, we offer free community yoga sessions every Thursday morning at Louis Joel. Additionally, you can join instructor Siew for a morning session of Tai Chi, a gentle form of exercise known for its numerous health and wellbeing benefits. Tai Chi is often described as a moving meditation and provides a peaceful space for self-reflection and relaxation.
If you're a book lover, we invite you to bring along a book you've read and share it with others in a relaxed setting. This informal gathering encourages literary discussions and fosters a sense of community connection. Best of all, it's completely free and no bookings are required.
Lastly, we are currently seeking garden volunteers to assist with managing our vegetable beds in the community garden. Tasks include various gardening activities aimed at maintaining and nurturing our green space. If you have a green thumb and are passionate about sustainable living, we would love to have you join our team of dedicated volunteers.

"What a vibrant arts destination! I attended the exhibition opening of a photography competition for primary school children and was amazed at the quality and imagination of the photographs - all beautifully presented. The Joel Gallery was full of adults and children connecting with the works and the activities and each other. There was a three-piece jazz band crooning away in the entrance foyer. While patrons checked out the marketplace and the garden from the sun-filled deck. I’ll certainly be back!"
