At Gogyo Surry Hills, we pride ourselves on being more than just a restaurant. Our founder, Shigemi Kawahara, also known as the "Ramen King" of IPPUDO fame, established Gogyo in 2003. With locations in Kyoto, Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hong Kong, Surry Hills is proud to be the 6th home for this iconic brand. Our casual-chic Japanese ramen bar and dining space offer a unique experience where you can start with drinks, indulge in a variety of small plates, and end with our signature ramen.
Our menu features a wide selection of contemporary a la carte dishes that perfectly complement our specialty ramen selection. From shared snacks and sashimi dishes to robata grilled mains, there is something to satisfy every palate. Our Kogashi-style ramen is a must-try, showcasing a unique charring technique that brings out an incredibly fragrant and bittersweet flavor. We also offer classic ramen and a vegetarian option to cater to different dietary preferences.
Designed by the talented Paul Kelly, our interior reflects a contemporary yet cozy "wa" enclave. With careful attention to detail, from the vibrant retro ramen bowls to the elegant glassware and traditional Japanese baskets, Gogyo Surry Hills provides a visually stunning backdrop for your dining experience. Choose between ambient table-top dining or counter stools, where you can witness the theatrical preparation of our Kogashi-style ramen.
To ensure the safety of our guests, we currently have two seatings each evening at 6pm and 7:30pm. Reviews
"Interesting ramen soup flavours due to the unique style of preparation. Noodle quality is average. Very nice atmosphere and service."
"Surry Hills is known for lots of hidden gems. Gogyo is one such ramen gem. Love the rich traditional flavour with a modern take of layered sophistication. Will have to try the karaage next time as that looked tantalising."
"Safe to say I enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Tonkotsu modern ramen and it was delicious. Of particular highlight was the creamy egg that is served with the dish, the flavour was exceptional. I would liken it to a buttery popcorn taste with a deep chicken broth undertone. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere with upbeat music. Don’t be fooled by the front door, this restaurant has a great interior that is perfect for a romantic date night. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu."
"Very beautiful ramen experience. Enjoyed the full course of Japanese dinning here. The ramen was the highlight. Gyoza were nice but the salmon and squid were refreshing (not bad but dont remember much). The broth of ramen is flavoursome and each ingredient just stands out well while blending well with the ramen. Very nice. The macha softserve and creme brulee were average. Next time I would go straight into ramen and nothing else. :)"
"We ate here on a Monday night. It was crowded but we were able to get a shared table seat without reservations. The food was very good, I enjoyed my ramen and my pork was like butter. The service was very lacking, having to track down servers to order food, get more water. The food was delicious though!"
