"The Porter House Hotel is a well situated boutique hotel that is part of the Accor Group. The rooms are hi-tech (iPads, electric blinds, touch buttons everywhere) with comfortable beds and a good shower (but minimal functional flat surfaces in the bathroom for your amenity kit). The bar serves good cocktails, but does close early on a weeknight. After half a dozen stays, I have experienced a number of reoccurring minor issues. These are all issues that can be addressed, and I'm sure the team will do their best to resolve them moving forward (although I get the impression from some of the staff that it 'is what it is'). The tech doesn't always work - lights won't go on, TV channels stop working etc. The rooms are clean, however I've experienced on occasion beds that aren't actually made properly (the sheets not covering the mattress - on check in!), and most recently a toilet that would not stop running. These are most likely teething issues, but frustrating that there has been an issue on each stay (which I've politely advised the team of during the stay) but it's something different each time. A word of caution - there is currently considerable construction occuring directly opposite the hotel up until midnight on certain days. This is outside the control of the hotel, but they are aware of it. It would be beneficial for the Porter House to provide ear plugs for guests when put in rooms directly opposite the new Pitt Street Station. (Rooms ending in 08,09,10). It's not much to ask, and will ensure guests can enjoy some peace and quiet in the hotel when it's occurring. Will I be back - most likely - it's well situated, but it needs to get on top of these minor issues."
"We stayed at the Porter House hotel for 2 nights in August 2023. Everything at this hotel is fantastic: Clean rooms, big room, big comfy beds, nice bathroom, designer toiletries, complimentary Nespresso coffee, T2 tea and room slippers. Huge TV, airco. No carpet in the rooms but wooden floors which is great! Dinner at the restaurant on the 1st floor Dixon & sons was excellent, plenty of gluten free options. Breakfast ( a la carte) at the same restaurant was superb, including plenty of gluten free options. We could leave our bags at reception while we flew to the Whitsundays free of charge. And the location is excellent. A few minutes walk from Monument metro station, so only 15 minutes by metro (T8) from the airport. And in walking distance (5 mins walk) from all the shops in QVB building, George Street and department stores David Jones, Myer, Westfield mall et cetera. Also really close to all the busses, going to Bondi beach (bus 333) and the bus to the University of Sydney and Circular Quay (opera house and harbour bridge) Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Sydney!"
"Very poor experience. I stay in mostly Accor hotels and this was one of the worst. It looks nice but that’s about as far as it goes. Claims it’s a 5 star hotel yet ameninites are closed on non-weekends. Breakfast was so bad (and cold) that we ate elsewhere."
"Loved our stay. Short walk from Town Hall Station or Museum bus station. Looks out opposite Hyde Park. Safe and secure area and entry. Beautiful, clean and well presented rooms. Device provided to control lighting, curtains and temperature from your bed. Beautiful lotions and shampoos. Huge tv. Restaurant and bar on site. Pool and BBQ area for summer months. Gym provided also. Plenty of options for dinner if you walk down to World Square or around Town Hall"
"If you like boutique hotels and this is definitely worth checking out. Although part of a larger Accor group, it really has its own style. Small lobby area and attached restaurant are really nice and the rooms are really comfortable. Tastefully decorated with lots of eye on the details. The hotel is hard to fault in my personal opinion. Bed was really comfortable and I like the fact that you had two different chairs in the room, one that you could comfortably sit and work at any other that you could switch on and watch TV. The bathroom is also well decorated with clean lines. Its also well located and all of a 5 min walk to Pitt Street Mall. In all my years of flying into Sydney the very first time I decided to take the train from the airport to downtown. Not only was it fast and efficient in the case of this hotel you get off at Museum Station and the hotel is a 2 min walk away. I decided to get the train back to the airport and this time International, and it was faster than getting a taxi. Worth checking out for sure."
