Holiday Inn Express Melbourne Southbank, an IHG Hotel 47 City Road, Southbank, Victoria 3006

"The hotel super was very helpful when we discovered that the door on our room wouldn't lock properly. He quickly got us relocated to another room, before we headed out to see the show that we didn't want to be late for. His prompt response was greatly appreciated. As for the breakfast service the next morning, well, what can I say!!! We were expecting to be greeted by a staff member upon arrival at the breakfast area, but there was no one to be found. Anybody staying at the hotel could just wander in and have a free breakfast if they wanted to. We were quite annoyed, as we had prepaid for our breakfasts, but I'm quite certain that many others there, had just rolled up and scored themselves a free breakfast. It was quite disappointing, as we then had to line up in massively long lines, just to get what I would call, a very average breakfast. No potato rosti, or hash browns, or potato chats to go with our bacon and scrambled eggs. The entire breakfast area needs a serious overhaul, as the fresh juice was right in the middle of the hot food, which was a very weird place to have it. Why not have it at the beginning or end of the breakfast area, where guests can just come and grab a drink without having to cut in the hot food queue. The same goes for the coffee machines, where you had to queue up in one of two queues for a coffee and it was pot luck if the people in front of you decided to get one coffee or four (or more) coffees in one go. No staff were monitoring the queues to ensure that people weren't abusing the system. In fact, the only staff that were there, were those who were either clearing abandoned tables or those who were topping up the almost empty pots of hot or cold food. The area definitely needs a manager to oversee what's going on and maintain some sense of order."

"My Queen room on the 17th floor with city views was spotlessly clean and I loved that they had recycling bins and pillows labelled soft or firm! The included breakfast had limited choices but was delicious although replenishment was very slow. Onsite parking is available for a fee. Well located just a five minute walk to Southbank restaurants."

"Great place to stay and head to the footy. Reception and bar area is lovely. Bar is open 24 hours. Breakfast is included for free. Not much variety like a full buffet breakfast but still your standard eggs, bacon, toast, cereals, juice etc."

Perfect for single or couples travellers, the rooms are well appointed, clean and tidy - staff are friendly and informative. Buffet breakfast is always a plus - just make sure you get in early to beat the weekend rush. Highly recommended"

"Nice hotel. I was only there for a night to attend an event the next day and it was simple and had everything I needed. We were able to sit in the large dining room to eat our Uber Eats whilst working. The rooms were tidy and the staff were friendly. It would've been nice to be able to get service at 2030hrs but the kitchen had already closed hence the alternative. Would stay there again."
