"Stayed in the Penthouse for three days from 28th to 31st October 2013. Firstly the good points. The interior design is beautiful. The kitchen / dining, bedrooms were all simply amazing. You could not fault the look of the place. The view from the rotunda towards to sea was fantastic. Enniscrone is quiet at this time of year but Balina is only a few minuted down the road and Beleek Castle is well worth a visit. Bad Points Hot Water: The apartment has an electric heated hot water cylinder that is timed to come on twice a day. This contains enough hot water for two and a half showers (I should know as I was the half shower that went cold before desoaping myself). Thats the hot water gone until nighttime when you can have another two and a half showers. This is simply not good enough as the Lighthouse advertises a jacuzi bath amoung its attractions....good luck getting enough hot water for that!!!! As the apartment advertises room for eight people that means one shower every two days on average. There is an electric shower but we found that the drain was half blocked leading the shower tray to fill up....result ......the electric shower couldnt be used. Heating: The lighthouse has electric panel heaters and they are simply not powerful enough for the apartment on a cold october day. If you can imagine, the rotunda is essentially like a conservatory with a metal roof which the panel heaters valiantly failed to heat to a comfortable level. Luckliy the owner provided four heavy throws that we could cover ourselves with in the evenings. The middle bedroom doesnt have a fixed heater at all!!!! and the owner has a small electric plug in heater in the room to compensate. This was simply not powerful enough either. Luckliy the fixed heaters in the master bedroom and the first bedroom were fine. Access: The apartment is accessed from an unheated stairwell to the rear of the building. The stairwell is carpeted and the combination of no heat and wet shoes meant that there was a damp / musty smell to greet you when you arrived. Conclusion: This could be an amazing self catering property but is badly let down by the heating and hot water issues. I wouldnt rent it in the colder months but the summer months should be fine. There are minor maintenance issues to contend with (blocked drains) and the hot water issue needs to be sorted by either leaving the water heater on or providing a simple one hour booster switch for the renter to use. I would also double the amount of hot water storage. The existing cylinder is not big enough for an apartment with three ensuites and a bathroom. Two stars out of five is an fair mark."
