The Quay House Beach Road, County Galway
About the Business
Welcome to The Quay House, a charming and historic guest house located in the scenic coastal town of Clifden, County Galway, in the west of Ireland.
Our unique property has a fascinating history, having been built in the 1820s as a merchant's dwelling and waterfront store. Today, it has been lovingly restored and converted into a 15-bedroom guest house, which exudes warmth, character and luxury.
Each of our individually designed rooms is spacious and comfortable, and many feature original fireplaces, antique furnishings and stunning views of Clifden Bay. Our beds are dressed with the finest Egyptian cotton sheets, ensuring a peaceful and restful night's sleep.
Guests can start their day with a delicious breakfast, made using locally sourced produce and served in our cosy dining room overlooking the water. We can cater for all dietary requirements, so please let us know if you have any specific requests.
After a day exploring the rugged beauty of Connemara, you can relax in our cosy lounge with a book from our extensive library or enjoy a drink in our fully licensed bar. We also have a beautiful garden to explore, which leads down to the waterfront.
Clifden is known as the 'Capital of Connemara' and is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside, from the dramatic mountains and lakes to the wild Atlantic coastline. We are happy to help with advice on local walks, hikes and activities, and can arrange bike hire, fishing trips and other experiences.
At The Quay House, we pride ourselves on our warm welcome, personal service and attention to detail. We look forward to welcoming you to our home and sharing our love for this beautiful part of Ireland.

"The food here is EXQUISITE. My husband got the seafood chowder. It had chunks of salmon, juicy mussels, hake, and dill floating in the creamy base. Potatoes, celery, and carrots. It was the best we had our entire trip. I had the GF fish and chips. The batter was crispy and flavorful, the fish was flaky and thick. Their house salad had sweet pee vines on it and a delicious vinaigrette. The service was excellent."
"Last stayed here almost 20 year ago. Great to revisit. Paddy and Julia remain perfect hosts and The Quay House is still a really comfortable and inviting home from home."
"My wife and I enjoyed a scenic drive along the Wild Atlantic Way and came across the hidden gem of Clifden; The Quay House. Paddy and Julia welcomed us personally and immediately made us feel welcome. The house was adorned with an eclectic mix of historic artifacts, artwork and architecture. Each room decorated with paintings and antiques, while maintaining homeliness. The bedding provided us a perfect night sleep. The breakfast was above reproach and of the quality that rivals most international fine dining (My wife had the Irish Breakfast while I had the Oysters Rockefeller). We traveled home to see family here in Ireland after living in Abu Dhabi; however, could not resist making sure Paddy and Julia were recognized for their amazing location."
"Incredible accommodation, welcome and location! The Quay house is by far one of the best places I have stayed. Both Paddy and Julia were amazing hosts and so kind. The house itself is beyond beautiful and is filled with so many interesting antiques making every room so unique. We will definitely be back and would implore everyone to do the same! 10/10"
"A wonderful treat. We stumbled across this gorgeous treasure by chance. We were exceptionally warmly welcomed by Julia and Paddy. The Quay House is an elegant step back in time but our room was huge and comfortable with a large modern bathroom. Bonuses were the large bath, the huge very comfortable bed, plenty of power points to charge our phones, wooden shutters which kept the room nice and dark for sleeping.Topping it all off was a sumptuous breakfast in the conservatory and plush living rooms with open fire to relax in before bed. Thank you for a really special night Julia and Paddy"
