"Kids keep leaving door to play area open with breeze coming on customers, staff won't close it. Several customers including myself got up to close countless times during our meals. Food was also a 40 minute wait from order. Portions small. Nearly €7.00 for a porridge only one toilet not friendly for changing young kids"
"Today, my mum went into the king oak and the decor shop to eat and to buy some decorations. My mother is autisitc. The music was so loud she nearly fainted. She asked 3 managers to turn it down, the managers of the decor shop was very helpful and turned it down. A woman with black hair, slim who was the manager of the king oak. Came out and turned it up in front of my mother's face. My mum explained her situation and asked for just five minutes of time to keep the volume down so she could decide what to buy and eat. This person told my mum that her disability was NOT HER PROBLEM and the music will STAY UP! We have never been treated with such disrespect and disgust. This is such inappropriate behaviour. My autistic mum drove home in tears from overwhelm! I will never shop or eat there again and neither will anyone that I've told. The lovely girls at the desk were amazing but the woman who came out and disrespected my disabled mother and told her to deal with it. Wow. You should he fired."
"Few years back I really enjoyed the place. Lovely spot for family with kids. But last 2 times I found staff rude and unhelpful. Leaving me standing for more then 5 minutes to be seated were place was empty with only few tables occupied."
"I simply have to leave a review about this place as it’s still on my mind today. I went to the King Oak yesterday with my mother for the first time and my tiny little dog. As soon as we entered two members of staff commented on how lovely and quiet he was which was very kind. We were going to do all our Christmas shopping here as we decided their items were very festive and cute. Unfortunately, a very young member of staff came over to me and very rudely told me my dog was not allowed. Now, that was fine that he wasn’t allowed. But how she said it was so rude so I clarified, “he’s not allowed in the building at all?” And she said “yes” (with a serious attitude). Safe to say I felt like a complete outcast among what appeared were people who felt above me. While this was happening there was a number of staff behind her huddled together clearly talking about me. I left so that I could let my mother browse away but she found the encounter so rude and uncomfortable that she left too and we agreed never to return after it. I’ve been in luxury shops and various establishments all over Ireland (and Tullamore) with my dog and: 1: i have never been asked to leave 2: If a dog wasn’t allowed it was mentioned very nicely 3: some places merely ask you to carry the dog but there’s no need to leave But in no establishment at all have I been spoken to in that way about something that I would completely understand had it been communicated with respect. It was very clear that she was told to speak to me by the older members of staff that were blatantly gossiping about it behind her."
"The King Oak is a strange one. On the one hand, it's a shop with lots of accessories to make your home feel more comfortable and also typical wedding presents. On the other hand, it's a café with lots of sweet stuff but also all-day breakfast, sandwiches and a few warm options. They also have an extensive kids menu and a kids corner which parents can easily oversee. The food came quick but was well presented and in decent quality and quantity. The staff were very friendly. Overall, as a family with two young preschool kids, this is a great place for a small meal where adults can stay for a chat while the kids play in a safe area. We will come back."
