About the Business
The Everyman is a unique and historic institution located in the heart of Cork, Ireland on MacCurtain Street. As an establishment which has undergone many transformations since its founding over 120 years ago, it has become a point of interest for visitors and residents alike.
Originally opened in 1897, The Everyman began its life as a theater known as the Dan Lowrey's Palace of Varieties. With its ornate façade and grand marquee, it quickly became a staple of Cork's entertainment scene, attracting performers from around the world. However, following a decline in the popularity of variety shows, the theater faced the threat of closure in the mid-20th century.
Thankfully, local residents rallied around The Everyman and advocated for its preservation. After a series of renovations and updates, it once again opened its doors in 1991 as a multi-purpose venue, hosting an array of cultural events, including theater productions, music concerts, and comedy shows.
Today, The Everyman continues to provide a platform for creative expression, serving as a hub for both established and up-and-coming artists. Its main auditorium has a seating capacity of 650, making it one of the largest performance spaces in Cork. Additionally, The Everyman also includes a smaller studio space, which can accommodate up to 60 people.
But The Everyman is more than just a venue for artistic events. It is also a symbol of the Cork community's resilience in times of challenge. Through many transformations over the years, The Everyman has retained its character and charm, drawing visitors into its rich history.
Whether you're interested in catching a play, concert, or comedy show, or simply taking in the impressive Victorian architecture, The Everyman is sure to delight and inspire. Make sure to include a visit to this unique institution on your next itinerary in Cork, Ireland.

"Came here recently for work - loved it. All the technicians and FOH were lovely and very helpful. Located very centrally and beautiful historical 125 year old building."
"Superb classic venue. Can't fault it. A great emersive experience"
"Hadn't visited The Everyman for many years up until a couple of weeks ago when we attended The Addams Family. What an absolutely stunning theatre! Seriously, the decor is amazing. Everyone we dealt with (tickets, bar) was very friendly and welcoming. Of course the show was also fantastic."
"I have no complaints about this theater. Saw a Christmas Panto here with the family and it was a lovely little theater. It feels intimate, but I didn’t feel like it was too tight. Seating grade isn’t too steep so for smaller kids it could be hard to see around a taller adult. There is a second level, and a really nice little lobby with a bar. The sound and lighting were both good. A great experience. I’d like to get back to another show. (Not the greatest pics here, but just so you get the feel of the seating area)"
