"Brilliant, loved our stay. A very unassuming building from outside near the road, but come around the corner and a lovely garden area with plenty of seating, some of it covered. A bike rack is available. The outbuilding has been converted to 5 bedrooms, and I would expect they are as well designed and decorated as the rooms that we stayed in the main building/pub. Staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful with great service. Well stocked bar with plenty of seating that opens up in to a large dining space. Evening meal was amazing, great choices and lovely flavours. We chose Tanner's wines as they are a local and a well renowned wine merchant and didn't disappoint. The wine accompanied Ox cheek for me and duck for my wife. Lovely dessert choices to follow, great warmed brandy and coffee. Breakfast was amazing as well, served with a complimentary platter of fruit scones, butter with blue cheese and a sliced salami sausage. I chose corned beef hash, but not as you think, but with beef brisket. It was superb. A small loaf cooked that morning with butter and marmalade or marmite. We loved our 24 hours, great place, people, food & drink, all with high levels of service and a friendly smile. Definitely recommend, and we will be back. Be aware, they do not open Sundays, it's the staff day off !"
"Really lovely place. Excellent food for dinner and breakfast. Beautiful individual styling of the bedroom. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. Definitely recommend a stay at The Bear!"
"We did not even get to this pub for our stay as my friend was very poorly so we were unable to go. Unfortunately the experience of trying to cancel and re-book was so unpleasant that we have decided that this is not a place that we would wish to stay at. I tried contact the pub to re-schedule within the time frame to avoid a cancellation fee but they were closed and did not get back to me until it was too late. Anthony's attitude was somewhat gleeful that he was not willing to accommodate another available booking and was very speedy to charge us £160 for this unavoidable cancellation. With such awful customer service I can only assume their hospitality would be equally unpalatable. When there are so many lovely places to stay I would encourage anyone to explore beyond here."
"Stayed one night midweek. Room was in the adjacent barn .Room was called "willow ".A lot of individual styling had gone into the room. Very clean and newish. Bed very comfortable. Room just a little small. Had dinner there. Excellent food. Menu needed a bit of concentration to work through! Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was included in the price. Somewhat limited in starter choice. The whole building has been fully refurbished to a very high standard and with a lot of attention to detail."
